The versatile Jeff Bridges, after playing roles ranging from cowboy to tech wiz, will now under go a different change of clothes: wizard.
The first images of “The Seventh Son” have been released. The movie adaptation is based on the novel “The Spook’s Apprentice” by Joseph Delaney. Bridges will play brusque sorcerer John Gregory who is in the wintertime of his years as he tries to find an apprentice to carry on his work. The problem is all his former assistants have died and he will need the seventh son of a seventh son in order to have someone permanent.
Unfortunately, this all gets complicated further when Bridges’ nemesis played by Julianne Moore escapes from her supernatural prison. “In real life, she’s gorgeous, and she’s gorgeously grotesque,” say Bridges on her role, “She’s really something to behold in this.”
To delve into his role Bridges has read fantasy works like that of JRR Tolkien. The actor says of his new character, “He’s appreciated for keeping evil away, but he’s also a frightening figure to the townspeople. When you mess around with darkness, some of that gets in you, too.”
Concerning the time it takes to get into costume, he adds: “By the time you get through getting your clothes and makeup on and getting to the sets, you’re pretty much there back in the Dark Ages.”
The film will be directed by Sergei Bodrov whose films “Prisoner of the Mountains,” and “Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan” were Academy Award nominees for Best Foreign Film. The film’s release is being planned for October 2013.
