Has The ‘Terminator’ Franchise Been Resurrected From The Ashes?

It looks like we’re only a few years away from another Terminator movie hitting theaters.

Megan Ellison and her brother David Ellison have both picked up the rights to the sci-fi franchise through their own production arms: Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions, respectively.

They’re set to produce two new Terminator movies before 2019, when the North American rights to the characters revert back to creator James Cameron.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and director Justin Lin were originally attached to a new film, but apparently those plans have been scrapped.

The legal rights surrounding this franchise have been nothing short of migraine-inducing.  It seems like the franchise has been sold off from studio to production company back to studio like a cursed item in a demented auction house.

Are you guys excited for more Terminator movies?  Or is the property just a hobbled horse waiting for a life-ending bullet to the head?

No Thanks. I’d just wait till Cameron gets the rights back, so he can either bury the brand forever (which I think he’ll do, cause he now makes Smurf movies now) or he’ll re-invent it himself.

There will be no better T-movie EVER than the first two movies…..

Cameron needs to take the reigns on this again. In the original Terminator they say that the T-800 ages or something like that. What he should do is have an older T-800 that is no longer under the control of Skynet, one that thinks for itself.

Couldn’t care less….Without the involvement of James Cameron, these movies mean little or nothing to me, Just let it go. please,

100% I agree with you on that one.

you said it. i thought T3 was the life-ending bullet to the head and t-salvation was just a bit of necrophilia.

They should just sell the property back to Cameron, and let him save the franchise. Maybe it would get him off those silly AVATAR films he is thinking of making.

T3 was a disgrace! They made a wuss out of John Connor! Salvation was imo a ok movie, not as bad as so many people make it to be. By now, they have bumped the rights of this movie around so much, that I can’t help to just not care anymore.

If they dare do a reboot, they’ll need to go the Star Trek route and involve Christian Bale, Arnold Swartzenegger (CGI with voice overs) and hell, Thomas Dekker, Lena Heady, and Summer Glau!

I think McG mentioned something about the machines mastering time travel, so Judgement Day comes a lot sooner, like 1996.

Terminator ended with T2. I refuse to acknowledge anything after that.

    OPENING SCENE:
    A human skull.
A Terminator foot crushes it to powder.
Pan up to the Terminator’s head as it looks around.
Suddenly three glowing red spots appear on its forehead and a familiar sound effect is heard.
    FwZAPP! The terminator’s head explodes.
Cut to the top of a nearby ruined building, where an invisible alien hunter with dreadlocks materializes.

    Oh yeah….

It’s funny, I wrote a Predator vs Terminator story like 20 years ago when I was a kid. I TOTALLY want to see this movie made! You can have it that the Predators are ironically enough the reason why the Resistance wins in the end.

Killing for sport is one thing, killing for war would be another. Could you imagine the weapons the Preds could use in this???

    Boggles the mind.

Nice – and because the whole planet is in conflict, it could attract a larger pack of Predators, loaded for bear.
