Not having any other movies to make, Universal has decided to reboot the Mummy franchise that starred Brendan Fraser; which was itself was a reboot of the classic Universal monster movie.
Directing the re-reboot will be Len Wiseman, the mastermind behind such cinematic classics as Underworld and Total Recall (2012), who told the following to Movie Web about the film:
“There was skepticism. The difference between the two, if The Mummy is to be the next movie for me, is that The Mummy is a completely different film. It is a modern day take. It doesn’t have anything to do with the Brendan Fraser films, and it is not a remake of any kind.
“It’s horror. Its epic. It’s more of a modern day version of what would happen if we came across a mummy in our world today. It is pretty fascinating.”
Wiseman wants his film to be less Raider of the Lost Ark and more a straight up modern horror film.
Do you think he can pull it off?
To be honest, I didn’t hate the first two Fraser Mummy films. They were dumb fun and a nice escape for a couple of hours.
