George Lucas Doesn’t Have A Lot To Do On ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Access Hollywood cornered George Lucas and asked him what his involvement will be with Star Wars: Episode VII. The answer, I think, will make most us us very happy.

Lucas:

“[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.’”

Basically he’ll just be a consultant on the film, which we already knew. Personally, I think this is a good thing. I’m not as big a Lucas hater as most people, but I do think it’s time for him to pass the reigns of Star Wars on to a different team.

What does he think of Steven Spielberg directing SWVII? After laughing, Lucas said:

“I’m pretty sure he’d never want to do that!”

He’s right, of course. Spielberg has already said publically that he doesn’t want to direct a Star Wars film, which kind of sucks since he’d probably be perfect for it.

passing on the baton was Georges Plan way back in 1977, But he’s a self admitting control freak and he worried others would ruin the franchise so he held on. I think the backlash the prequels got ( not all of it deserved) Opened his eyes to the fact that he was just making the film because it was expected not because he wanted to. He’s probably struggled with handing over the franchise for since episode 3 wrapped, and the only way to stay completely out was to step down and hand over the whole company. I appreciate that he’s still a part of the franchise but he’s handed over the reigns to more interested men

I wonder if its laziness or something else that contributed to lucas waiting so long as well as not making more star wars movies
