Beginning as a stuntman, Ric Roman Waugh, has forty-eight titles to his credit with “Total Recall” and “The Crow” among them. Now, instead of literally being the man in the driver’s seat albeit racing off a cliff, he will transition to that said arrangement on metaphorical terms.
Relativity Media today, has signed Waugh to direct and rewrite the Sci-Fi movie “Tipping Point.” Originally written by Todd Stein, it is set in the dystopian future; a hundred years from now, where over-population is the norm and control of the amount of people are rigorously enforced. At the head of upkeep for these standards is the Population Control who enforces the code on pain of death. Any citizens who have children without a license will be unmercifully slaughtered.
The protagonist is Solomon Cage who is an officer at the organization. His life will be opposed to the set order when he discovers the two suspects he’s tracking are his former lover and his recently discovered child.
“Tipping Point” would be Waugh’s fifth directed feature; the next to be released is the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson action movie “Snitch. Along with Relativity, will be Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen who have worked on the “Twilight Saga” and also Industry Entertainment’s Andrew Deane who was involved in “The Double.”
Conceptually, this movie can hit all the right notes hitting upon the socially relevant topic of population control and the possible consequences of these issues.
There is no solid start date for production to commence, but it will definitely be after the release of Waugh’s “Snitch” which comes out February 2013.
