There has been plenty of talk concerning casting on “Guardian of the Galaxy,” an unknown commodity which is projected to be a success due to its link to the Marvel Universe. Much has been said about the lead character Star-Lord, but what about the other members?
There are three names that have the leg-up on the competition for the role of Drax the Destroyer. According to the source, the three actors considered will be Isaiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick Wade.
Mustafa is best known for his humorous “Old Spice” deodorant commercials and appearing in “Horrible Bosses.” He has previously expressed interest in playing Marvel’s Luke Cage. The next candidate, Bautista, has been involved in WWE and recently appeared in the RZA-directed “The Man with the Iron Fists.” Lastly, is Wade who has made a living on TV, most notably “NCIS” and “The Big Bang Theory.”
The character Drax used to be Arthur Douglas. Unfortunately, he and his family are attacked by Thanos and left for dead. He would later get his chance for revenge when his soul was placed in a stronger body for the explicit purpose of battling the Mad Titan. One of the more interesting powers at Drax’s disposal is the ability to sense Thanos’ presence from light-years away. It seems more and more likely that this movie will be a springboard for Thanos into mainstream consciousness.
Casting is finally shifting, and now in contrast to Star-Lord, the speculation can focus on Drax. “Guardians of the Galaxy” will be released August of 2014.
