McG (Terminator: Salvation, Charlie’s Angels) is shooting his newest film, an untitled thriller project, in Paris, and several actors have been announced to fill out the cast.

Joining Kevin Costner are Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Amber Heard (The Rum Diary, Paranoia), and Connie Nielsen (Gladiator).

The screenplay is written by action director Luc Besson and Adi Hasak.

The film’s official synopsis:

“This darkly comedic action film tells a story about a secret service agent who’s agreed to return from retirement for one last mission – in exchange for access to an experimental drug that could save his life. Hallucinatory, narcoleptic action ensues as he tries to complete the mission while battling the side effects of the drug”

Sounds like a middle-of-the-road riff on Crank, coming from middle-of-the-road talents like Costner and McG.

I don’t know why, but every time I read the line “…for one last mission.” in a movie synopsis I get really irritated. Is it cliche to use that as a plot device now?
