Sentinels Arrive to ‘Days of Future Past’

Mark Millar has had quite a career. From his beginnings with 2000 AD comics, the home of Judge Dredd, to his controversial stint with DC Comics during his “The Authority,” he has always had a penchant for reinvigorating old characters. Now, Millar releases creator-owned projects, most famously “Kick-Ass.” But, there has always been a soft spot for Marvel’s Merry Mutants, a group he came very familiar with during his run for “Ultimate X-Men.”

Being Fox Studio’s overseer for their version of Marvel’s cinematic universe, he had his own thoughts when it came time to discuss the upcoming “Days of Future Past.”

“It has actually been very well put together – Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn worked on it together and they are both great at what they do. Then Bryan Singer came in, and, of course, he is Mr. X-Men and he knows exactly how everything works.”

Millar continues by contrasting the first two X-Men movies with the third, saying:

“These two movies never felt like overload and the balance was really, really good. On the other hand I though the third film felt crowded, but then Singer is excellent at working with ensemble casts. So with this one I feel it is all fine. I have read the screenplay and it doesn’t feel rushed and it doesn’t feel like it is too many characters.”

There seems to be a few surprises for the upcoming movie as well.

“I don’t really want to give too much away but the Sentinels are a big feature of this story. They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers.”

And fan-favorite Kitty Pryde might also be in the mix.

“Ach, I cannae get into that [laughs]. As soon as I say something it will turn into a big internet story. Let me put it this way though: Kitty Pryde fans will not be disappointed.”

Millar finally went on to say that the X-Men universe was more interesting than Marvel’s, and when it came to solo spin-off movies based on the mutants:

“…there are a good half dozen that I would like to see do their own thing.”

The newest X-Men installment based on the pivotal comic arc, “Days of Future Past,” will be released next year.

If you can’t admit that ‘X-men: The Last Stand’ is garbage then I don’t want to hear it.

Now when they DON’T make sense you fit them in… Genius.

Where the fuck were the sentinels when the original movies came out?? Where the hell was Apocalypse? Cable? Bishop? Omega Red? Mr. Sinister? Colossus? (A 30 second cameo doesn’t count)

Every single X-Men movie minus First Class was absolute shit, and was pretty much a complete disappointment in comparison to what they could have been. If they transposed the comic or the TV show frame for frame, these movies would have been EPIC.

But instead you get a watered down, pussy-ass version of one of the greatest superhero franchises in comic book and TV history.

Bryan Singer sucks, Brett Ratner blows and they’ve both made this franchise as disappointing and irrelevant as Resident Evil has become.

    agreed ^^

You forgot to mention just how s**tty Mark Millar is.

I really wish we could’ve had an awesome X Men movie with all the characters Bryan just named but i don’t think that will happen. Or will we see Bishop or Cable since this is in the future???? I feel it would be cool to get an Old Man Logan movie eventually.

I respect Singer’s X Men for ushering in this era of CBM’s we all now enjoy. At that time we were all so happy X Men didn’t suck we gave it a pass. But I said this then and I’ll say it now, those movies were very subdued. They were good, but they were always missing something. I hope he finds that here. I also hope at some point we get other X men villains in this series. All that said, I’m looking forward to this nonetheless.

i’m so sick of magneto. seriously, i don’t want to see him in another movie.

Can’t disagree with you. There are so many other villains that could be used. You could seriously do a whole trilogy around Apocalypse, Sinister, Stryfe, and Cable. Hell, throw Bishop in too, if you’re going to use time travel – and time travel doesn’t even have to be the main crux of the story (for those of you worried about repeating themes of DOFP). We don’t have to know Cable & Stryfe are from the future until later. OR, Cable could be coming back to undo what happens in DOFP. I don’t care.

The more I hear about this flick, the more I reckon it could be the best movie in the X-Men franchise.

Pacific Rim has already beat FOX to making Sentinels. And will likely be a better job.

I want to know who his dealer is. I want some of what he’s taking so I can escape from reality every now and then.

Singer is Mr X-Men? I thought he was Mr Fuck Up. Millar is an idiot.

  • Rob

    Totally agree.

  • lamerz

You sound like Mr. Retard. Singer did damn fine job with the first two, especially considering the fucking executives at Fox (*cough* Rothman *cough*)

  • Rob

Now you sound like Mr Dick-For-Brains. Ive read X-Men since the early 80s and Singer, and most people will agree with me, really screwed the pooch. If Fox was the reason, then how do you explain Superman Returns?

  • lamerz

Whatever. Schumacher’s Batman “films” had basically killed comic book movies. Singer and Raimi brought them back, made them popular, and ushered in the golden age. They may not have been 100% true to the comic, but they were close enough and just as importantly, entertaining for fans and non-fans alike. Especially X2, which kicked ass.
