Disney has come to invest in a sequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” the 1939 film starring Judy Garland. Based on a book by children’s writer L. Frank Baum, there is a wealth of imagination that has led Disney to believe “Oz: The Great and Powerful” is a good idea. But, who will help take up the musical reigns?

To up the commercial value of Disney’s newest product, Mariah Carey will be singing her way onto the film with her new song, “Almost Home.” The single will be released a month prior to the opening of the film on February 19, 2013. In making the music video that will accompany this song, director Dave LaChapelle says that it is “…a duet between Mariah and the movie.

Mariah Carey, the five-time Grammy Award winner known for the highness of her vocal range said of this particular work, “‘Almost Home’ has a message that works beautifully with the film. It’s a feel-good record; it gives you the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love. The singer will also be releasing her eleventh album this spring.

The movie, “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” was directed by Sam Raimi of “Evil Dead” and “Spider-Man” fame. The movie is a precursor of sorts to the original 1939 film, as this one will follow the origins of Oscar Diggs, the wizard character. Playing the lead will be James Franco and in the role of the three witches are Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams.

Audiences will be returning to the Land of Oz on March 8, 2013.
