Michael Keaton is joining Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper in DreamWorks’ racing action movie Need for Speed.
The film is inspired by the racing video games published by Electronic Arts, but isn’t actually based on any single one of the games. Act Of Valor director Scott Waugh will helm the project.
Written by first-time writer George Gatins, Need For Speed tells the story of a local street-racer (Paul) who partners with a rich and arrogant business associate (Cooper), only to find himself framed by his colleague and sent to prison. After his stint in the joint, he joins a New York-to-Los Angeles race to get revenge. But when the ex-partner learns of the scheme, he puts a massive bounty on the racer’s head, forcing him to run a cross-country gauntlet of illegal racers in all manner of supercharged vehicles.
According to THR, Keaton will play “the reclusive and eccentric host of an underground supercar race where he invited the best drivers from around the world.”
Imogen Poots, Kid Cudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malik and Harrison Gilbertson also have parts in the film.
We expect to see a lot of Fast and the Furious-type action in this one. Need For Speed is slated for a February 2014 release.
