Well, since Vin Diesel is already playing Riddick, Momoa is a good choice for Drax. I just wish there were more Guardians in this movie. I think they should’ve added Adam Warlock and Phyla-Vell as Quasar.

I’m sorry – you’re right – that isn’t how all screen tests work. But that IS how Marvel screen tests work. They do the deals the same way TV shows do tests deals for TV pilots – that is, work out all of the deal points in the short form contract before the actor tests so they know they have him if they want him. We’ve had clients who have tested for marvel and Guardians and this is the only way it works with them. So, as THR has reported, Momoa tested and not yet been offered the role. So, insofar as Marvel goes, it’s not completely wrong, it’s fact.

Sorry, but the screen test process — essentially an “advanced” audition — is there in order to narrow down who you want to make an offer and deal with. You’d never make a deal with someone and then screen test them for the part.

This is why its awesome that James Gunn is so active on the Internet, I can win an argument instantly. I asked him the question and he answered on his Formspring page- they do the deals first then screentest. So that means the above story, at least the part about Momoa asking for more money, is inaccurate.
