‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Is A Political Thriller Per Kevin Feige

bucky winter soldier.2As you know, I been busy with Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and their Phase 3 plans (he he he) but what is going on with Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

I recently gave Ed Brubaker’s creation a shot in The Winter Soldier stand alone comic that just ended Brubaker’s run with issue #15. It was a dope series and I grown to like the character.

Movie wise, the Cap sequel starts production this spring with the Russo brothers directing.

My boy Kevin Feige, who is receiving the Motion Picture Showmanship Award from the ICG Publicists Guild, spoke to Variety and dropped this tidbit about Superhero films:

If it is a fad, it’s one that lasts 30 to 40 years, as the Western did, because each one is so different. There’s an opportunity to graft almost sub-genres onto them. Our first Captain America film was a World War II picture, and the next is a political thriller. They all have their own textures and patinas, and that’s what is exciting about it.

Superhero films ain’t no fad that’s going away anytime soon. Not while they make a billion and a half dollars at the box office.

But that’s not all cool kids!

I’m excited. But you never know, some things are and some things are not, before Star Trek 09, Avatar, Moon, and District 9 sci-fi was considered a more or less ‘dead’ genre, but now in 2013, some of the biggest films coming this year are sci-fi. Everything comes and goes and I wouldn’t be floored to one day see that superhero films are no longer the ‘cool’ thing to do.

Interesting how Phase 2 has two “grounded” earth based
stories in Iron Man 3 and Winter Soldier as well as two fantastic cosmic
tales in Thor: The Dark Worlds and Guardians of the Galaxy… Excited to see how they tie it all in for Avengers 2.

Evans and Stan give me a political thriller… in my pants!

I hope they are truly committed to producing as many of their properties as possible, and seeing what sticks, not just going with what they ‘know’ will sell.

I’m not a fanboy of comics, but a fan, and love the genre. I most love going out on a limb in many medium, because if it works I get a movie, comic, novel, video game… of my obsessions.

I agree that the superhero genre is going to be around for a while. There really are a lot of different stories that can be told within the genre and the surface has only just been scratched. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekmtkQEGt-Y
