Guillermo del Toro: New developments on Justice League Dark

During an interview recently with Total Film, Guillermo del Toro dropped some new bits about his involvement with the upcoming Justice League Dark movie including where he is in the development process.

“Yeah, I am going to be presenting my storyline to DC and Warners of where I want to take this universe. We do have a writer, but until that is firmed up, I have to keep it a secret. I hope it happens.”

Del Toro seems to have a unique vision for the DC story, which will be a blast to watch if the film continues to develop smoothly. He also opened up about his interest in the varied origin stories of many DC characters.

“I’d love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig.”

The Justice League Dark is slated to open summer 2015. Warner Bros knew they had stiff competition after Josh Whedon churned out a satisfying ensemble action flick with The Avengers. Getting Guillermo del Toro involved is the first step to leveling the playing field.

Del Toro says that they have a writer, hopefully the screenplay that accompanies said writer can rival that of The Avengers. While Marvel’s screenplay wasn’t perfect, it was impressive to see how the writers distributed the dialogue among such a large and talented cast. Often, there is a tendency to mistakenly leave out certain (fan favorite) characters in ensemble films.

I can’t help thinking that this is a project that should come after a more traditional Justice Leauge film.

So they are making “Justice League Dark”? I’m a little perplexed by this, since the ACTUAL Justice League film has been postponed. Unless they call it something else, selling ‘Justice League Dark’ to the masses will be kind of weird. I didn’t even know what it was until today.

no offense to him, hes a good director, but hes like the boy who cried wolf with these things. what happened to the frankenstein he and doug jones were gonna do? what happened to hellboy 3? or the hulk tv show? every time i turn around hes talking another project that usually doesnt see the light of day. i know thats just the business in hollywood, but im not holding my breathe on this one. this seems less likely to happen than the previous movies hes talked of.
