In a recent interview with Indiewire, lead actress Noomi Rapace said this about the Prometheus sequel:
”They’re working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It’s just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.”
The studio hasn’t said if there is a writer in place, however the original screenwriter Damon Lindelof (Lost) has confirmed that he will not return. Is this a plus or a minus for the project?
The screenplay for the Prometheus sequel will be difficult to write because of how polarized people are on the original storyline. Rapace touched upon this in her interview with Indiewire:
”And it’s interesting because people, most people I’ve talked to who see the movie, see things that are quite different. Some people who see the movie many times and discover new things. There are all these religious aspects and there are very interesting conversations.”
I walked out of Prometheus last year confused but satisfied. Scott was never going to be able to give us the same experience he did with Alien. The set up of Alien with the long takes of the ship…epic. Nevertheless, there were some good moments.
The most chilling scene for me in Prometheus was watching the found footage scene of the Engineers running down the tunnel from…something.
That is how found footage horror is supposed to be done. Maybe Scott should just make the Prometheus sequel into a found footage horror film. I know he thinks it’s a young man’s game because of the target audience of Paranormal Activity franchise (and its clones) but he should give it a shot…could be interesting.
When the trailer for Prometheus came out I dared myself to believe that perhaps Scott was about to drop the next Sci-Fi masterpiece…It’s still a damn good trailer.
