Tom Hardy and Solar Pictures to Tackle PTSD In Samarkand

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Tom Hardy is working with Solar Pictures on a new indie film Samarkand, about a British soldier returning home from duty in the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

It might be difficult for Bane fans to look at Hardy in a different role for awhile but I’m confident Hardy will put on a great performance. I can’t think of a recent British film that has dealt with a character returning from the Middle East and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. American films like Jarhead, The Hurt Locker and Home of the Brave a couple of American non-documentary films that have dealt with the subject.

This will be the Greg and Olly Williams’ debut film after Greg Williams’ short film: Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother which won best director at several American short film festivals. Watch the trailer for Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother below.

Greg Williams is a photographer and his short film has some great shots. Hardy will have time to develop his role as the brothers are still working on the script and Hardy has just wrapped up Mad Max: Fury Road.

Solar Pictures is a newly formed production company that plans to make: “Small independent pictures to mid-size action films with budgets up to $30 million.” The Wrap has more details on Solar Pictures.
