Chris Cooper to Play Green Goblin In ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′

While I’m out on the prowl trying to figure out who got the Rocket Racoon gig on Guardians Of The Galaxy, this Marvel news drops.

According to THR, Chris Cooper has signed on to play Norman Osborn aka The Green Goblin in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for Columbia Pictures. Cooper joins a cast that is already rocking Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giammatti as The Rhino. That is quite a bad guy club. Spidey is going to have his hands full with that trio.

Although, I personally haven’t seen the first The Amazing Spider-Man, from what I understand, Harry Osborn’s company Oscorp was heavily featured in the first film.

I think a real solid choice. Cooper adds serious value to anything he does. Loved him in the first Bourne movie.

The NYFF Premiere of Sony Classics 'Capote'

Synopsis for those not in the know:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds, life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 drops in theaters on May 2, 2014.

Perfect casting – but he’d be just as good as J. Jonah Jameson!!

wasn’t his face used for the 3d test modeling of the Lizard? I’m all but certain of it.

He’s awesome but way too old. At 61 years old, hard to believe that he would be agile or physical enough for the role. An actor in his 40s (John Hamm?) would have been more believable as a savvy businessman with physical prescience to be a glider riding, fighting monster. Especially if Peter/Harry are in high school- 40s would have made more sense.

I’m just hoping the go with the orginal GREEN GOBLIN design and not the Ultimate Spider-Man version! How crappy would it be if we got two different cinematic versions of Spider-Man’s arch nemisis and niether of them look like the actual character! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekmtkQEGt-Y

Chris Cooper? Doesnt seem like the Norman Osborn type of actor. I know he can play a real hard ass because of his role in American Beauty but….Im not sure he can do Osborn.
