It seems that in some ways “Star Trek: Into Darkness” will be old school. Though the possibility of Khan reappearing is up for debate, old foes will return, reimagined for this newest spectacle.
Klingons will be making an appearance on the Enterprise. J.J. Abrams said of the alien race: “Their role in this is definitely adversarial and you’ll see how that plays out.” Though for the most part, the Enterprise crew has had rivalries with the Klingon beings, there are exceptions; the most prominent being Worf from “Star Trek: The Next Generation. “You don’t need to know any preexisting stories to enjoy this film,” says Abrams.
Another important character is Alice Eve’s Carol Marcus. Her character’s first appearance was in “Wrath of Khan” where she was the mother of Kirk’s son, David. This has been speculated to be meant as a clue to Khan’s eventual appearance as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. “[She's] someone who is part of the adventure,” he said. “Her role is important. She wouldn’t be in the movie otherwise.”
“Star Trek: Into Darkness” is coming this May.
