Below are two new posters for the post-apocalyptic Oblivion film that were released to Entertainment Weekly today.

Morgan Freeman looks like he could start a trend with those goggles.

The second poster with the bridge reminds me of the sunken Statue of Liberty in Planet of the Apes. Whether this film will solidify itself as worthy of making such comparisons remains to be seen, but the director of TRON: Legacy could surprise us.

I loved the cinematography in TRON: Legacy and I’m excited that Kosinski has cinematographer Claudio Miranda back for this film.

Director Joseph Kosinski is delivering his post-apocalyptic film before M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth.

Oblivion opens in IMAX on April 12, 2013 and in wide release April 19, 2013.

After Earth opens June 6, 2013.

Both movies have big box office draws, but if both opened in summer, which would have the edge? This is setting aside directing, writing, editing. Which film would win the box office by pure star power alone?

Are Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman greater than >, equal to =, or less than < Will Smith?

I hate math too.

Synopsis:

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

The film stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo.

I’ll definitely be watching this, because Tron: Legacy was amazing. I doubt I’ll be watching Will Smith’s because it doesn’t look as good as this.
