Awesome video, the only thing that I think holds it up is I think both Bale and Nolan seemed to be zeroed in a Oscar worthy roles. I think it’s possible as you can never truly say never. But I’d be interested to see Nolan’s level of involvement, producer is a no brainer because after the dark knight, he stands to be set for life of a movie like this if it’s ANYWHERE near avengers. My other concern being a HUGE DC fan ( as well as marvel. ) is DC’s lack of ability to do anything right beyond batman. Past track records examined, I think if they truly want to make money, they need to not rush and do something pure, and close to the comic. Darksied, Braininac, Black Adam. Something fresh. Here is hoping they do something with the superman franchise as he’s my favorite. Beyond the obvious Zed, and Lex luthor.

The DC characters deserve a great film. Giving us one (especially with Nolan,Bale, Synder, Cavill attached) is guaranteed money for WB it would be incredibly stupid if anything but this happens. Even if they test the waters with a Batman/Superman team up film leading to JL it would rock the box office. El Mayimbe you sir are awesome. Damn man. My mind is blown. Yep, if this movie ties in with the post Dark Knight Rises Batman, count me in!

For those poo-pooing TDKR, Iron Man 2 wasn’t exactly the second coming of Shakespeare, and the Hulk movies were even worse.

Batman/Bruce Wayne, even though older can come back with the help of techonology (like the leg brace in TDKR and the backbrace in Kingdom Come), and a proxy (Nightwing/Batman 2). He could also serve as the team’s Nick Fury, more logistical help than anything else.

Fingers crossed that this is true!

While this does seem promising and I’m excited to see DC get their shit together regarding a shared universe, I can’t seem to shake the feeling that the Batman in the DK Trilogy wouldn’t be a good fit for the Justice League. In the comics/animated series one of Batman’s larger contributions to the JL were his resources. His money basically, but as we saw in at the end of TDK (spoilers…) he’s lost his company, his fortune, not to mention he gave away his Batsuit and all his gadgets. Batman without his money or resources would mean no gadgets, tumbler etc and that’s just no Batman at all. I hope they find a way to get around this all, Bale made for an awesome Batman/Bruce Wayne but they’d have their work cut out for them.

If they go full out origin story on Man of Steel and everything else in this franchise, that could be a way to explain it. There WAS no Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. to save Gotham.

This is awesome. Cavill as the MOS Superman, and Bale returning as Nolan’s Batman, both awesome ideas. Also, even though it was a bad movie and it bombed…having Reynolds return as the Green Lantern would be a pretty cool bonus as well. A lot of the extra-crazy appeal of a crossover film is having the respective actors return as characters they have played previously.

He took the Executive Producer role on Man of Steel because that was the only way Warner’s would agree to make Goyers script (by Nolan’s own admission, he had nothing to do with the film after Synder’s announcement as director…Warner Bros just wanted his name attached to the film so they could use it as a promotional tool for Man of Steel.)
Nolan has also stated repeatedly that he has no interest in being involved in the Justice League film/ and future DC Super-Hero films…which suggests that even if he is named as one of the producers, it will be a credit in name only (and he is not going to be involved in any real capacity in the films production.)

This report is based around the idea that Nolan would be PRODUCING. Just like he’s producing and helped write Man of Steel.

The only thing the movie highlighted was that the scriptwriter and director couldn’t give less of a shit about what they were making…. Reynolds got screwed.

Anyone else think Bale’s Wayne was weak as hell? Especially this last film. He was most promising at the end of Begins. Dark Knight was okay. He was a terrible detective and very weak willed for a character known for being so self driven in his war on crime. I think bringing back Bale is a mistake. The actor is good, but the way the character was written was weak as hell. To say jnothing of him retiring for eight years and becoming old and weak. Even the older Dark Knight Returns wasn’t that weak. That’s not a Batman you want for Justice League.

Nolan’s Bat films should be left alone. They were more a deconstruction of the character, not a straight up adaptation. And they work best on their own. That is a major downside. They were never planned to mesh with Justice Leauge, unlike Avengers. Warners is looking only at box office results and bs marketing gimmicks, not characters and story mechanics. They fail at seeing that.

They could just as easily reboot a more established and stronger Batman in a Justice League film. I want a more straight up version of Batman, not some weaker pseudo-real version of him.

Just get the greatest actor in Hollywood these days justin timberlake to play Green Latern, the thick girl from precious to play Wonder Woman, and most importantly do not leave out the Legion of Ro: Bizarro, Starro, Sinestro and evil Zorro as the main villains. Surefire success right there.

Like the first part of Batman Inc! Bruce is Batman of the world, Dick is Batman of Gotham.

I’m all for this. I think people tend to forget that the original Iron Man was supposed to be a “realistic” universe, and we saw how that turned out (Thor and Avengers with the aliens). Nobody makes a peep about that now. If they make the Nolan universe open to Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman, fantastic. If the biggest plothole is Batman’s age via Bale and TDKR, they will do just fine.

So would this treat Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy as already established canon? How does that work given Nolan’s slavish detail toward making his Batflicks as realistic as possible(within the superhero genre anyway)? I don’t know. this could work. you have JGL taking over for batman in bruce’s absence (which has happened in the comics). basically they could spin it where there is a problem which bruce knows he can only handle so JGL has to back off. they should spin it that he has been keeping tabs on the rest of the JLA members. Then superman and the rest contact batman saying they need his help. Bruce comes back from the dead and no one suspects hes batman since JGL has been filling the roll in his absence. He regains his wealth and comes out with some new toys and the team saves the day.

Between a Bale/Cavill JLA, a Harrison Ford Star Wars, and Avengers 2, its gonna be a hell of a Summer in 2015.

But wouldn’t Nolan get the funding for his original movies anyway? It’s not like Inception was an artsy flop. Wouldn’t Warner forcing Nolan to do something he doesn’t want to do (like more comic book movies) lead him to leave for another studio that treats him better, which would also be a ludicrous business deal on Warner’s part? I think it’s all up to Nolan to decide if and how much time he wants to dedicate to these movies. I hope he continues successfully in the superhero genre, but I’m sure he doesn’t want to be pushed around.

And why do people want Levitt as Blake as Batman or even Nightwing?

John Blake was a cheap quick work around for Nolan’s own version of Batman because he didn’t have time to work in Dick Grayson or any of the other Robins. It should NOT be continued.

Let Nolan’s damn trilogy stand alone. Trying to extend it only ruins it. Hell, the third one was already starting to seem past its expiration date. The only way it works is as a bookend.

Hell, they pretty much had Dark Knight Returns with Bruce retiring. You can’t have him join the Justice League after that and having Blake as Batman in Justice League is beyond stupid.

i couldn’t agree more. i love comic movies when they actually have a head on their shoulders, but nolan’s batman movies- mostly the dark knight rises- were a little bit tedious. mostly i want to be inspired and thrilled, not bummed or maudlin or outright listless. most of all i HATE literally didactic writing in movies, especially coming out of the mouths of superheroes- or their counterparts.

Superman should play the villain(controlled by the actual villain). Batman knows the threat Superman can pose which I think is enough to pull him out of retirement to bring the League together which ties in with the Nolan series ending. The League frees Superman but realize that the threat is much bigger leaving room for a sequel.

Blake eventually is tragically killed off and young Greyson is then taken in by the returning Wayne Batman who then takes up the superhero pseudonym of “Robin” in honor of his fallen father. Enter the rightful dynamic duo.

I’am currently employed by Warner Bros. as a script editor. For reasons of job loss I cannot say my name. But the script was terrible, even gangster squad which was written by beale wasn’t that good. That movie was rewritten during shooting.

Justice league by Beale would have made Warner Bros never touch superheroes again, apart from batman and superman. It wasn’t nowhere near as good as the avengers and even the fantastic 4 movies were better.

Well technically Joseph Gordon Levitt is Batman, end of story. Look I probably ranted about how Christian Bale should be Batman more than any of you. Batman Begins and Dark Knight are two of my favorite films but I don’t see how anyone can watch the trilogy and think “Yep, that guy grew up to be the type of Batman who can hang with the Justice League”. And let’s not forget that Nolan and co literally retired Bale as Batman. Unless “salmon fishing in the Yemen.” makes you an unbelievable badass with better gadgets, a cooler costume and a more Batmanly outlook on the world then teaming up up Bale’s Batman with any other superhero makes no sense. And Batman was popular before Nolan by the way. He did a great job of making him relevant and accessible to movie goers but the Nolanverse should be done. It’s clear that it was never intended to go beyond Dark Knight rises and the risk of Nolan being forced to continue it for the money is just asking for poor quality.

Well he saved the city in the first and second movies as well. I think if anything Supes would say “Darn, that Batman fella keeps saving the same city once a year from bad guys he had a hand in creating. Pass.” I’m being serious, Bale’s Batman would be about as useful as Hawkeye or Black Widow were in the Avengers. Batman should not be “hero support”. He was fine for the very grounded, sanitized vision of Batman’s world but JLA is not from that world. Introduce a more formidable Batman and watch it make more money than ever before. At this point people aren’t dying to see Christian Bale films, they wanna see Batman films which is how it should be.

They should keep it Batman/Superman based. But if they do decide to make it a full-on Justice League movie, I have a radical thought: bring back Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern. Yes, his one outing was disappointing but the overblown story, the wan action, and the lame villain that doomed that movie weren’t his fault. He’s an above-the-line BO draw and would mesh well with Bale and Cavill.

It’s imperative that Christian Bale come back for JL or Worlds Finest (whatever they’re calling it). In order for the studio to truly compete against Disney’s Avengers & Star Wars — the only actor they can cast for this movie in the role of Batman is Bale. Case closed. Having Cavill and some no name re-cast, who has nowhere near the marketability of a billion dollar franchise star that Bale has, leading the ensemble cast would be a financial flop.

Why? Forget TDKR storyline, it’s irrelevant. The ending leaves plenty of possibilities for Bale’s Batman one way or another, he’s alive (despite all the fanboys hopes to kill him off — why do you think Warner Brothers pushed so hard to keep Bale’s character alive?).

If the studio decides to re-do the Batman story arch with another actor in place of Bale then the financial value of this film will crumble. The studio simply doesn’t have enough time to kick start a new Batman franchise (under Nolan which would make no sense) and then rush to put together a JL picture by 2015? Makes no sense for Warner Brothers. If they were planning a 2020 release of Batman/Superman, then I could see the possibility of recasting Batman — but by 2015 — no chance.

People want to see Bale and they would flock to the masses in billions to see Cavill and Bale on screen together in a Batman/Superman flick and Warners will pay millions to get Bale back — it would be huge.

Who cares about TDKR ending? A JL or Worlds Finest storyline doesn’t hurt that trilogy, with the right story it only enhances it.

People tend to forget that a total of eight years passed between TDK and TDKR. Why not set a JL or World’s Finest movie in that time? Then have TDKR happen after the JL or WF movie chronologically… That can clear up why Wayne’s knee is screwed up. Obviously Man of Steel would have to be set right after TDK

Interesting report, I enjoy all of your work and have to say I am impressed with the track record concerning accurate info. I just don’t think Bale will come back because I do not believe Nolan would do anything to unravel the world he so carefully crafted in his Batman Trilogy. I really do not believe that Bale’s Batman works with this new universe Warner Brothers is crafting for the Justice League. We are going to have aliens, super powered beings and virtually limitless possibilities when it comes to abilities and antagonists. That clashes with and I believe is un-intergratable with the Nolanverse which is so gritty and grounded in reality. I mean if Ledger’s Joker or Hardy’s Bane exist in the same world as Superman, I mean really what chance do they have? Why are they even threats? You would need to reimagine those characters to fit the overall reality in which they exist. The Batman rogues gallery in a Justice League settng should more closely represent what we saw in the animated Justice League series. This way the door is open for super powered villains to appear (Clayface, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze). Not to say Batman’s rogues gallery has to play any significant part in the story (we all know they are going for Darkseid!), but it’s all relative. Also take into account Bale’s Batman is older and has a pretty long list of injuries which are now caught up to him and one thing thay CANNOT do is have a Justice League film with Batman on the side lines. This movie is still a long way away. Hopefully Nolan, The FanBoy Savior, Blessed Be His Name, we shepard a new and high quality story to us.

I totally agree with all you said. With TDK and TDKR Nolan made gret action films BUT he didn’t make great Batman films. There is a nuance. It’s very true that Nolan doesn’t understand the character a bit. Batman would never give up, let alone eight years!? Batman would never retire, we see that in the Dark Knight Returns (in the comics he wouldn’t even take a vacation because bad guys don’t take vacations!) and he’s the greatest detective and we didn’t see that. Except for Batman Begins which was closest to the spirit of the character, Nolan missed it completely. Nolan gave us HIS view of the character, but not the character we know and love.

i think Nolan should be involved in the production if only for the aesthetic &making sure Bale signs on.. now this is where it gets tricky.. i think Peter jackson should direct… Marvels (always been) the pop &mtv to DCs classic rock &vh1
DC heroes ARE perfect in every way.. but they dont think/know they are.. Marvels heroes are(think they are) flawed in every way.. but think to hell with it

Peter Jackson of the Ring Trilogy.. BIG and broad and expansive..if anyone can do a setup where the heroes actually take themselves 100% seriously without seeming silly its that guy… OR you can always fallback on Snyder who will still do a terrific job

The only problem I have with Warner bros whole move into the Justice League is that it just feels rushed. I mean, we literally have 2 years before this movie comes out and the ONLY characters the audience have been introduced on the team are Batman and Superman. That is really making me feel uneasy about this whole process. The other heroes on the team deserve to be introduced to the public the right way. And yes, I’m going to say it, the way that MARVEL introduced their heroes to us. I mean seriously, Aquaman, Flash, Wonder Woman, are they just going to POP UP on the screen in 2015 with no pre movie intros??? I just think that aspect of what’s happening is really lame.

insider let say the avengers wasnt a great superhero movie and the fantastic 4 movies were horrible especially the rise of the silver surfer. thank god they are rebooting it. Watching the video above and listening to the journalist saying nolan will be in charge of all superhero projects for Warner Brothers brings joy to me . if marvel was to have this director then your employer will be in world of trouble but i can now look forward to great movies oh by the wounder women that been cancelled expect that to be made.

He makes a good point. Bale reprising his role as Batman in the Justice League would not only ensure Warners a massive success but it would bring one of the biggest aspects of my childhood to life. Remember being like seven yrs old watching Superfriends?

How cool would it be that at the end of the Man of Steel credits there is a scene that pops up…but it is the end of Dark Knight Rises and Batman is carrying the nuclear ball over the ocean and then superman comes out of nowheres and flys him supersonic away from the explosion, and thats how Batman lived. I would be floored just the meer fact that it was planned so many years ago.

After Final Crisis, Batman seemingly died. Richard Grayson took over as Batman and when Bruce came back, both men were Batman. Grayson handled Gotham and Bruce, the world.
