Variety reports that Chevy Chase (Community) and Beverly D’Angelo (Vacation) are in talks to reprise the Griswold family roles that they made famous in the Vacation movies of the 1980′s.
The Vacation series of films (the first of which was directed by Harold Ramis in 1983), starred Chase as a well-intentioned dad whose vacation plans always underwhelmed. Usually after the initial letdown, Chase’s character would desperately try to make the best of things which would result in chaos.
In the reboot being put together by New Line, Ed Helms (The Hangover) will play Rusty Griswold, Chase’s characters’ son, who now has a family of his own to take on terrible vacations. Christina Applegate (Anchorman films) would play his wife.
In the reboot, it is expected that Rusty will go on a road trip with his wife and make a pit stop at the home of his parents, during which Chase and D’Angelo would make an appearance. The roles of Chase and D’Angelo are expected to be cameos or very limited.
The first three Vacation films (of four) were written by John Hughes (Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote Horrible Bosses, are writing and directing the reboot.
