Black Film recently spoke with Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Pain & Gain), who plays Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, about the significance of his role.
Aside from Rhodey in Iron Man, there have not been many major characters of color included in the Marvel films so far.
In an interview with Black Film, Mackie was asked if his role would be greater than that of Derek Luke’s (Antwone Fisher, Glory Road) in Captain America: The First Avenger, which was limited.
I’m happy to say that I’m in a good deal of the movie and I play an integral part with Captain America taking down the winter soldier.
Mackie also gave details on what the costume would be like:
They just released pictures of the costume last week. It’s more of a military style tactical costume. He’s more along the lines of Captain America as far as being a superhero as opposed to a true superhero.
Mackie will be seen next as a bodybuilder-turned-thief in Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain. He previously co-starred in the Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker.
