Dan Aykroyd is at it again, claiming that Ghostbusters 3 is really happening this time. According to the comedian, pre-production for the sequel will begin at the end of this year, and they’ll start shooting the film in early 2014.
Aykroyd told ABC News that he felt re-encouraged and reinvigorated by the pages he’s seen. He’s expecting half of the screenplay to be done very soon. He also teased that the story could incorporate new technology and real scientific research that’s being conducted today.
“The Higgs boson and the particle theories, gluons and mesons, that really gives us a scientific base in terms of our fictional storytelling, to open up to another dimension and have something horrible come through…We’re going to really put it into ninth gear, in this third one.”
The actor seems pumped to tackle Ghostbusters 3, but there’s been so much speculation and rumors that it’s hard to believe what’s true. He mentioned that they’ve got a “sharp” writer on board, with Ivan Reitman returning to direct. Harold Ramis is back in, but Bill Murray is still a no go.
“If I can put the catch-net on Billy (Murray) and bring him in, it will be wonderful, if he decides to do it. There will always be a hole for him.”
Aykroyd seems to be the only one that’s pushing the project. He’s been developing the movie for years (free of charge), but has encountered so many barriers that keep him from bringing Ghostbusters 3 to life. Maybe he should just try Kickstarter, don’t you think?
