Entertainment Weekly asked Hugh Jackman about his thoughts on returning as Wolverine for X-Men: Days of Futures Past.
Hugh Jackman has been playing the role of Wolverine for a long time. X-Men: Days of Future Past will mark the 7th time Jackman has played the character (including the cameo in X-Men: First Class).
Jackman first heard about the project last year during filming for The Wolverine. Jackman said:
I must admit I was starting to see a life free of steamed chicken breasts. They told me the idea and, at the time, it was Matthew Vaughn [directing]. Instantly, I knew it was a winner. It just felt like everything was coming full circle. However, I must admit my stomach and my mind were like, ‘Oh no.’
Jackman says that he has been given the full Days of Future Past script and that “It’s really really fantastic”.
The Wolverine star is also sentimental about working with director Bryan Singer (who directed the first two X-Men films) again. Jackman said:
I owe, in a way, everything to Bryan. The first film I did in America was ‘X-Men’. Wolverine is a character I’ve loved playing and I can’t believe it’s going to be my seventh time playing it…I don’t want to give away too much but I’m really excited not only to reunite with all those great actors but also to work with some of the other ones.
We’re all excited about it as well.
The film stars: Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Fan Bingbing and others.
“The X-Men must travel in time to change a major historical event that could globally impact on man and mutant kind.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters July 18th, 2014.
