Rob Thomas’ Kickstarter-financed Veronica Mars has surpassed $4 million in donations. Now isn’t that sweet? Now that the movie has way more than it aimed to have, it pleases us to announce that Jason Dohring has been officially added to the cast. He’ll reprise his role as Logan Echolls.
Rob Thomas shared the news saying, “Jason Dohring is officially on board for the Veronica Mars movie. We now have three actors officially cast. Veronica. Logan and the waiter who says, ‘Your check, sir.’”
The series starred Kristen Bell as the titular Mars, a young student who, growing up with a detective for a father, moonlit as a private investigator. The series ran for three seasons, transitioning Mars from high school to college.
The plot line is laid out on the film’s Kickstarter page. It’ll take place years after the failure of Veronica’s dad’s re-election as town sheriff. Thomas wrote:
“But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling. My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica’s 10-year high school reunion.”
On March 13, Thomas and Bell launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $2 million to fund a movie version of the UPN/The CW cult television series that ended in 2007. Less than 12 hours after they launched the campaign, they had met their goal. Now they’ve passed the $4 million mark, and they’ve still got several days to go.
