This summer, fans of DC Comics most iconic character will hope that the upcoming “Man of Steel” will rehabilitate Superman’s image. To help in that respect, popular action director Zack Snyder has been brought in to try to make the character who can withstand bullets more vulnerable. One moment where that will be most apparent is when General Zod goes and attacks those who he holds dear.
The so-called “Battle of Smallville” will try for such an affect. Snyder describes it as:
“It’s a Western face-off. [Zod and Faora and the rest of the Kryptonian invasion] care very little for Smallville’s iconographic status. We’re being really hard on the town: this battle needed to be dangerous.”
At what personal cost can fans expect? Is it possible that the movie will try to take out Jonathan Kent given his comic history as usually first parent to die? It remains to be seen how deep this conflict can go to serve the turmoil and the final climax.
The production of the scene itself took nine days and the location was Plano, Illinois. The town’s mayor even got involved in the film appearing in a cameo as a distressed bank teller with Zod’s first appearance.
There will be a lot riding on “Man of Steel” especially if DC tries to continue developing their long line of heroes. The well-rounded cast will include the likes of Henry Cavill in the lead role as well as Oscar nominees Michael Shannon and Amy Adams.
“Man of Steel” will be arriving in theaters June 2013.
