‘Kon-Tiki’ Filmmakers Part Ways with Legendary Pictures

Legendary

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg directed Kon-Tiki, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. As Kon-Tiki was gathering buzz Legendary Pictures scooped up the Norwegian filmmakers for a new English language film called Spectral, but now the duo have decided to leave Legendary Pictures and the film behind.

Why did they leave? Apparently they felt the script needed more work and wanted to take the time to get it right. I guess Legendary had other plans.

The script, based on a treatment by Ian Fried and with a recent draft by Jayson Rothwell, is described as “a supernatural Black Hawk Down.” Legendary thinks Spectral has the potential to become a new franchise, so I imagine they’re eager to get it in theatres.
