Warner Bros. Pictures has released the poster and trailer for the fantasy adventure “Seventh Son” the big-screen adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s popular young adult book “The Spook’s Apprentice,” the first of an ongoing series.

The film stars Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Julianne Moore, Kit Harington, Alicia Vikander, Djimon Hounsou, Antje Traue, Olivia Williams, and Jason Scott Lee.

In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a knight who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory.

In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. Now he has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.

“Seventh Son” hits theaters on January 14, 2014

generic, boring – pass. if they want a grand adventure, trying getting Disney to revisit The Black Cauldron – the most underrated Disney animated movie – the series its based on has the potential to become a Lord of the Rings style epic – just keep it animated, not computer animated, but hand drawn

Mr. Bridges looks there like a character from Nausicaa Lord /master Yupa…. jejejej

Looks ok to me! Then again i actually liked Snow white and huntsman, though that twilight chick doesn’t bother me much as others because I’ve never seen twilight. (note, i did not see this trailer with sound as my speakers are knackered, but visually i dig it.)

Hey, I’m with ya! It looks really good! I also loved Snow White and the Huntsman. So long as she’s not in a Twilight flick, she’s not bad. I was surprised by how good she was in it.

Looks like great fantasy to me! Jeff Bridges doesn’t hurt either. I’ll see it!

    Looking forward to seeing this!

I have been waiting sooo long for this film. I think to enjoy it die hard spooks fans are just going to have to try to not relate it to the books.
Joseph Delaneys books are amazing and I agree that this could have been an epic series as good as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. The main characters Tom and Alice are only 13 in the first book, the film has a much more adult spin.
I think if you love this film the books would disappoint but if you love the books the film will disappoint. The essence of the original story is lost in translation to the film, in part due to the casting. I still think the film will be fantastic but the opportunity to create the original Spooks stories in film has been lost.
