Christian Bale Reportedly Offered $50 Million To Reprise Batman

baleIs it possible that Christian Bale is still not done donning the cape the cowl?

According to a new ebook, “Beyond Batman: The Unauthorized True Story of Christian Bale and His Dark Knight Dilemma” this may be the case.

The book cites sources close to Legendary Pictures that asserts Bale may have “no choice” but to don the cowl at least one more time.

According to the publisher of “Beyond Batman,” the Hollywood mega star likely won’t be able to refuse the potential $50 million payday that could come from playing Batman again.

Damn that is a lot of Bat bucks!

In my experience where there is smoke, there is fire. There is something in law called slander and no one would be stupid enough to put false information like this out there to make a quick profit and face a lawsuit no matter how many disclaimers the book has.

The book’s author Vince Russel says the following:

As the bat signal still glimmers with fervor above Bale’s Hollywood marquee, Christian Bale’s experience as the Batman of our generation is about to prove more inescapable than he expected. With three of the most successful Batman films in Hollywood history under his belt, Christian Bale is now facing extraordinary pressure to become The Dark Knight once again.

Could it be that Bale not sees the Batman films the way Robert Downey Jr sees the Iron Man films? The author adds:

“Although Downey has appeared as Tony Stark in four movies in less than a decade, he’s hardly typecast as Iron Man,” Russel says, “Downey has balanced his action film escapades with other projects that have harnessed his talents and earned critical acclaim in the process. If Bale follows a similar formula, his box office glory days may not be behind him – a reality that other men who have donned the black cape weren’t so fortunate to experience.”

The book at the end makes a ballsy claim. Christian Bale’s future success as a top Hollywood draw…

“…may need Batman every bit as much as the Batman franchise still needs Christian Bale.”

I don’t know about that. Christian is after all an Oscar winner. What do you cool kids think? Is this guy right or wrong? Chime in below. I’m doing my rounds and you know I am all over this story. The minute I know who the Goddamn Batman is, Bale or no Bale, I will let you all know.

Here is the book’s summary:

“Beyond Batman” is the unauthorized true story of Christian Bale and his real life Dark Knight dilemma.

As the bat signal still glimmers with fervor above Bale’s Hollywood marquee, this compelling, first-of-its-kind work recounts Christian Bale’s inescapable experience as the Batman of our generation.

With three of the most successful Batman films in Hollywood history under his belt, Christian Bale is now facing extraordinary pressure to become The Dark Knight once more in the forthcoming Justice League film.

This compelling read exposes how sources close to Christian Bale have reportedly begun expressing their suspicions that Bale now views the Batman films in the same light that Robert Downey, Jr. views the Iron Man films.

Although Downey has appeared as Tony Stark in four movies in less than a decade, he’s hardly typecast as Iron Man. Downey has balanced his action film escapades with other projects that have harnessed his talents and earned critical acclaim in the process.

If Bale follows a similar formula, his box office glory days may not be behind him – a reality that other men who have donned the black cape weren’t so fortunate to experience.

In the end, Christian Bale’s future success as a top Hollywood draw may need Batman every bit as much as the Batman franchise still needs Christian Bale.

    1. It’s crazy if they’ve offered him that much to come back.
    2. It’s even crazier if he truly did get such an offer and says no.

  • TJW

    Bale doesn’t need Batman.

  • cz

    WB needs Bale.

And “likely won’t be able to refuse the potential $50 million payday that could come from playing Batman” doesn’t equal “reportedly offered”

  • Kellvin007

I hope he does take the 50Mii. Didn’t Keanu Reeves take a boat load of $$ for The Matrix sequels?

  • Jesse

All they need to offer him is a portion of profit sharing. He could easily bank more than $60M in a 5% stake of the movie. Batman vs Superman will make more than 1B especially if he actually does come back. He’d be crazy not to do it.

  • TJW

This is the quote from the e-book: “He
could probably make $50 million for being in the movie 20 minutes,”
my friend observed. “And it would be worth every penny to the
    studio.”

    lmao. Anecdotal evidence ftw!

I can’t imagine Bale sees it that way, or I would hope not at least. He got the Oscar for the Fighter, has tons of money already and even thought the role of Batman got his foot in the door, at this point, he doesn’t need it anymore to remain as someone on high-demand in Hollywood AND in the indie world. People will remember him as Batman in the TDK trilogy for YEARS to come. My best advice would be not to tarnish that by being in a possibly less good Batman movie in the future. I call B.S for the most part…

I hope he takes the money.

  • Hephaestus1

First Nolan says that his bat franchise is in it’s own world. Then he says Superman wouldn’t be dark and gothic like his dark knight movies. Then Bale says he wont be returning as Batman for the sake of continuity. Then Snyder says that his Superman film wouldn’t fit into a future Justice League movie. Then he also says that the next Superman film would likely be a sequel to MOS.

Does anybody at WB/DC know what the hell they’re doing?

  • Batmancw

Though I would absolutely LOVE to see Bale & Cavill together as Bats & Supes, the BIG problem is that ONLY the fanboys & fangirls would easily “get” that he is NOT playing the SAME BATMAN from the Nolan trilogy. That said–IF they have REALLY offered him $50 Million, he’d be a fool not to take it

  • DeaditeCenobite

Ya but he gave most of it ti the effects department

  • Ricky Davila

As much as I loved Bale as Batman, in the new established universe with Man of Steel, no way in hell Bale could go toe to toe with this Man of Steel. Even with a mechanical suit. He could barely face Bane and Bane looks like a puny ant compared to Cavill’s Superman

  • @EpFandemonium

But Batman needs Bale. There needs to be a continuity, If he is to come back he needs to do 2 to 3 more movies leading to Justice league. Look, This is the century of the Comic Book Movie, DC has to shine, there is clearly competition between Marvel and DC. But in my opinion, Marvel brings out a lot of movies, DC brings out some.
There is a clear difference between Quality and quantity. The miss-steps of Iron man 2/3 from Marvel was a great disappointment, the quality of the Dark Knight franchise is a clear indication of the careful consideration from DC to put across their characters that right way. DC got burned in the box office with the awful Green Lantern, they learned from their mistake, went back to the drawing board and brought out Quality stuff after (Dark knight rises, Man of steel). Marvel has not learned that yet, they are too busy with movie after movie, not looking at the mistakes they are making. As an avid comic book fan there needs to be a focus on representing the quality of the product, rather than shoving it down our throats, and getting noticed by the few who are blinded by witnessing their favorite comics being brought to live and just cheering everything on.

  • Chris

If he’s reprising his role as Batman in this movie, clearly it would be Nolan’s Batman, seeing as Christian Bale was Nolan’s Batman. If you’re suggesting that Bale would play a completely different Batman, then you’re a fool.

  • Chris

Oh really? Bane’s a puny ant compared to Cavill’s Superman? Please.

  • Chris

One of the most moronic comments I’ve seen in a while.

  • Chris Groves

They could always go the ‘selective continuity’ route and say ‘In this universe, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight happened, but The Dark Knight Rises never did’ and leave it at that.

Similar to how Superman Returns used the first two Donner films as a “general back-story” to it. I mean, Superman Returns wasn’t good, but that was an interesting approach.

  • Chris Groves

At the end of the day, Bane is still a human, Superman is not. Don’t be naive.

  • Hephaestus1

    Oh? How so?

  • carrie

better than Bale’s comeback for Batman is Bale as baddie face to Superman and Batman

  • GeO

You know, I’m a big fan of Christian Bale reprising his role as Batman. And if it weren’t for your (latino review) previous spot on breaking stories then Id be a little skeptical of this article. But I 100% agree, he should be paid all that money. In fact, the studios are brilliant for stepping up to the plate. Heck, Sign him up For at least 2-3 more movies. If Marvel did it with RDJ in Iron man and the Avengers. Then why can’t DC/WB do it with Christian Bale. Can you imagine the fan uproar if RDJ was replace just before “Avengers”?!
I mean, who else can utter these words, “i want you to remember the man who beat you”, to our favorite Kryptonian hero? (TDKR) It has to be Bale ( i get goose bumps just thinking about it ) Otherwise, the trust and familiarity with his portrayal of the Batman would have been totally wasted. And can you imagine the box office revenue that would generate?! Yeah, I’m pretty sure that movie would compete if not surpass the “Avengers” movie. If commenting on this and/or similar articles is a way of tracking the publics opinion on who should be Batman should be then it’s obvious why the studios are supposedly offering him $50 million. Because just about everyone on Earth wants to see him don the cape and cowl again, & again. Okay, make it three more movies!

  • tylerj15

Very simple. if this story is true than CB will reprise the Batman .
He will NOT turn don $50 million.

as much as i love Bale as Batman, this new Superman vs Batman movie is set in another universe than Nolan’s, so i really hope this is not true. They shoulnt mix Nolan trilogy with the new Snyder films they are so different. Even if they cast Bale and they make it another universe this will confuse so many people…I hope this isnt true and that they will cast a new Batman, and a good one too

  • Batmancw

Well, they COULD have Bats somehow get possession of Zod’s suit of Kryptonian armor. That said–you’re correct that in a fight of strength and/or speed alone Supes wins easily. The Trick in Batman/Superman fights is that Batman is well prepared & either outsmarts or outstrategizes Supes & it also counts on the fact that Supes doesnt want to kill him, so Bats can go all out.

  • Just Saying

Well, in the defense of Batman versus Bane. Wayne hasn’t been in the Batman role for 8 years. When he returned he was two days in the Batman position from an 8 year absences when he confronted Bane. The major factor of being out of state contributed to his lost to Bane. Upon Batman’s return it was being under recovery and current accommodations that didn’t put him up at full strength on the second confrontation.

It would be of a great benefit for all if Mr. Bale would reprise his role once more and allows for two other Dark Knight trilogies to tell with openings to lead to other DC characters to enter the WB/DC film universe. What may that be? One is obvious, How did he return to the Batman role after it was hinted that Mr. Gordon-Levitt who was supposedly left to take up the mantle. While Wayne was on leave with Selena as was seen in the Dark Knight Rises.

If they were to take the Bale is Batman approach WB/DC could easily have films lined up way out to the year 2030 that introduces new characters. However, if they stay on a path of using Man of Steel to introduce other DC heroes it will feel as rushes as a Batman/Superman film currently in discussion.

  • GeO

  • Ryan

Bale doesn’t need Batman, he turns in great character performances given the right roles. DC needs Bale. The problem with DC is that Bale would probably insist on heavy involvement from Christopher Nolan, who – from what I gather – wants to get into back into non-comic book movies. Nolan is wanting to lighten his involvement, over time, not keep embedding himself into the genre. Nolan is as worried about “typecasting” as is Bale.

It’s time for a new Batman, who would fit into the fantastic universe of DC comics, alongside Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc… as well as the fantastic rogues gallery that a Christian Bale’s Batman would not fit.

  • b

Batman only needs Batman. The character was very popular long before Bale donned the cowl.

  • b

They dont know what they are doing, they have publicly said this.

  • Carl Thomas

I dont agree that Bale is going to only be known as Batman and he wont find other roles to be in. That is a ridiculous claim. Bale has done quite a few amazing movies in his past, he is a diverse actor with a ton of talent. This is of course leaving Terminator: Salvation out of mix :P

  • truly

    agreed.

  • Carl Thomas

I wouldnt necessarily say MOS was bad. I will say it wasnt what it should have been. Superman cam across way to uncaring of the people of metropolis. That as the big issue. It would have been alot better if they focused on him “finding himself”, more of his youth and starting with a smaller villian than Zod. That and not destroying 80% of Metropolis in the first movie would have been a better move.

Before the end the movie was decent.

If this isn’t DC desperately scrambling at straws here, then I don’t know what is. Everything they seem to do makes them money but then comes and bites them in the ass down the line.

I hope Bale says no, because it would ruin the already mixed-reviewed ending to the Dark Knight Rises, because didn’t he quit and retire to Europe to have BatCat babies? Amirite?

  • myclawismypenis

And what about new york in regards to the avengers.Yeah, in superman 2 he leaves to save it, but there is a battle before that happens and people gets hurt. “Christian Bale is now facing extraordinary pressure to become The Dark Knight once more in the forthcoming Justice League film.”

You know it is possible that this is old news. The author would’ve written the book back before Superman/Batman was announced and the JLA movie had the 2015 slot.

Remember when El Mayimbe reported that Bale was in talks to return for a JLA movie?
This could’ve happened back then, before WB decided to not tie-in the Nolan franchise and reboot.

  • GuyX

They have sample pages of the book available and its obvious bullshit. It’s written like a bad high school essay. He quotes a source whom he calls “his friend”. You can’t use slander if the author is quoting “his friend”. The author isn’t stating it as fact he’s quoting “his friend”. How could you report this crap? Read a few pages of that tripe and tell me you don’t walk away with a credible taste of bullshit in your mouth. That’s what this is: Bullshit

  • oxman21

That’s why DC should start their own movie studio like Marvel,

You know, made up of people who know what their doing and put the fans first.

  • Gerardo

What many fans (or haters) may view this as WB’s desperate attempt (could be) to compete against Disney/Marvel at the box office, I see this as a decision that has been long overdue. Each character has more than 70 years in comics mainstream, within that time, multiple crossovers in comics, graphic novels, and animated movies……..to be in a movie together is bound to happen. If not now, then when??

If there is a good story behind bales return as batman, im all for it. Surely Nolan being executive producer in this movie, he’ll know what would work to make it happen, storywise.

Lets give WB the bennefit of the doubt about their intentions, because if done right, it could be an epic masterpiece. Let us just be greatful we will get to see both characters in a movie, in our lifetime.

  • Darth Kaos

Ok, first…Bale was an awful Batman…there I said it! Second, he’s a better actor in better movies! Seems like the type of guy to NOT do a movie for money….Ok, Terminator 4 was an exception, and that’s why I think he won’t return.

  • Jim

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Myself i’m just getting to deal with TDKR, but beyond that the new DCU movieverse needs it’s own thing. If it relies in Bale, what happens when he’s out??? I love Bale’s Batman, but the new movieverse needs it’s own. It needs someone that will reinvent it. If there must be a connection, then Joseph Gordon Levitt as BRUCE WAYNE/Batman.

  • Jim

Note: I am NOT insulting Christian Bale, nor would I. I just think it’s a bad move unless they wanna pay half the budget for Justice League just to get Bale.

His Bat trilogy made 2.5 billion worldwide. So $50 million is not crazy. It’s actually a bargain.

Here we go again, the RT score is the ultimate decider.

Iron Man 2 and 3 were nowhere near as good as MoS, period.
    If so, prove it.

  • myclawismypenis

Hell, IM3 was boring as fuck. Tired of seeing the “suits” instead of Tony being in the damn suit and having someone to battle with. Plus, the ending was lame as fuck as well…one more thing, everyone wants to put down MOS and TDKR..but why the fuck couldnt stark being the genius that he is as well as mega rich come up with the idea of increasing the magnetism to slowly remove the shit from his chest….

  • Preston

Thank you for this. I thought Iron Man 3 was bad. I don’t get all the hate for Man of Steel. It was a fantastic movie. It made The Avengers look like Romper Room. I enjoyed the Avengers, but I thought Man of Steel has been the best comic book movie I’ve seen.

  • Batfreak

I could see how maybe the “MOS” franchise would be set YEARS ahead of the TDK trilogy, warranting Christian’s Batman to come out of retirement. But as it stands, he has no money, no technology…he doesn’t even have the Batsuit anymore. Bringing him back would not only destroy the Nolan continuity, it would put a heavy strain on that of the “MOS” franchise.

Of course, there was an 8-year-period where Bruce Wayne “went into hiding.” Perhaps that could be used as an excuse to bring Bale’s Batman into the fold, while also explaining his rickety knee in TDKR. It wasn’t just the fact that he pushed his body to the limit. He got really hurt doing something incredible with Superman and (maybe) the Justice League in that 8-year span. But, again, subtle plot points in TDKR might suggest otherwise. OR, going back to the theory that Superman saved Batman from the nuke explosion at the last second at the end of the film, because by then they were old friends.

…damn, and I was really starting to warm up to Josh Brolin.

  • Oxman21

It’s Superman/Batman, not ‘Man of Steel 2 (featuring Batman)’
They’ll hopefully get 50/50 screentime if done right.

How has anyone not heard of world’s finest?

  • Bobieto

YOU ARE A MORON. If Christian Bale was to come back, obviously it’d be to play Nolan’s Batman. Nobody knows what they’re going with yet. If you believe them, and think that the Batman is going to be new, then it’s going to be someone new because that could very well be the case. If Bale ever came back, it wouldn’t be a new batman. So, it’s NOT A FACT that if he came back, it’d be him playing a new Batman, you mewling quim.

  • Kellvin007

I just hope this whole thing about Batman being old is bull, because you can’t have an old Batman on JLA, cause if this does well you know they are doing JLA afterwards but they need somehow to introduce the other characters like Flash or Wonder Woman.

  • Steve Croft

I thought the story was Reeves took a reduced amount for The Matrix and took a cut on the back end of the films profits, hence why he made so many $$$ in the long run?

  • Steve Croft

It’d take away alot, A LOT of the need to reboot the series. It would ALSO give them the ability to drop right in with ‘And HEEEEERES NIGHTWING!’ and show JGL (skipping the whole Robin thing, also have them just flat out rename him Dick Grayson or something, having found his biological parents, that was his real name etc).

  • dontdodrugs

If they get him, they should just pick up where TDKR left off. I get that it’s a different universe and such, but for what they’re planning it works beyond perfect. Bruce comes back from Italy or whatever and meets Superman and so on. If they just start with a new Batman without properly introducing him in his own movie, it’ll get confusing. Warner Bros isn’t taking their time with this, like Marvel did. If they want to do a Justice League movie, they need to hold it off for a few years. Make the Superman/Batman crossover, a Flash movie, Wonder Woman, reboot Green Lantern(if they choose) and have them come out a year after the next by just filming them back to back. Then by 2018/2019 they can release Justice League and compete with Avengers 3. It just makes sense.

I know that their after big names, but seriously, if someone doesn’t see a Batman/Superman movie just because it doesn’t have the name Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum or Brad Pitt attached to it, then they shouldn’t be allowed to watch movies.

  • Chris Groves

Because then they would have to worry about making sure that no matter what, things fall into place to allow for Rises to happen in the canon. That means certain things couldn’t happen… because when it’s all said and done, the story needs to be left in a place that allows Batman to retire.

Also, the idea that there are other heroes in the world(they plan to build to Justice League) at the time that Rises occurs…and NONE of them come to help Gotham…it’s just absurd.

A ‘mid-quel’ is a bad idea. Just let Batman Begins and The Dark Knight be the ‘starting point’ and let the story diverge into two alternate paths from that point…one leads to The Dark Knight Rises and the conclusion of the story, the other leads to Man of Steel, World’s Finest, and Justice League.

  • myclawismypenis

“Also, the idea that there are other heroes in the world(they plan to build to Justice League) at the time that Rises occurs…and NONE of them come to help Gotham…it’s just absurd.”

Tell me then, how did Marvel do it? You can say the same about Marvel, why didn’t anyone go help Tony Stark in Iron Man 3? Maybe the other heroes were busy you say, then I can make the same assumption about the DC universe as well. I see this idea pop up all the time, when Marvel does it no one bats an eye, but when it comes to DC it’s not the same? But yeah you make good points other than the one I quoted from you.

Superman himself avoids most of the damage, is ZOD doing the clear bulk of the destruction. People are just wanting to piss and whine.

In Superman 2 he reduced Zod, Non and Ursa to mortality and then murdered them. In MOS, Zod was more powerful physically, stronger, but he had him in a neckhold, Zod put peoples lives in danger, they were about to die. Superman owes an equal NO protection. He saved the peoples lives at the expense of someone who declared he would definitely murder EVERYONE….

People just want to piss and complain about the movie and create issues that don’t exist.

  • Steve Croft

Ironman 3 was an incoherent fucking turd upon a rewatch. A total case of ‘Whaaaat the fuck were they thinking?’

  • Steve Croft

As the ‘how it should have ended’ said, why didnt he engage ‘house party mode’ from the beginning? He would’ve won outright… short bloody movie though, and much better. lol

  • Steve Croft

Avengers was superb, but MoS, it was the first truly SUPER Super Hero movie. It just felt like humanity were ants and GODS were crushing them in their wake…

  • Brian Knockin

More then anything Batman needs a good Writer Director that is just as important as actors Batman is a LEGEND Period

  • Brian Knockin

yea lol I didnt watch it twice lmao

  • Brian Knockin

Yes it was I it was Amazing I like the whole twist Thor to Cap to The Avengers I was DC to do the same

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    No. He sucked.
    Move on.
    New face.
    New energy.
    An actually intimidating actor.
    And… An actual Batman voice.
Not… A dude pooping in the can rasper.

  • Brian Knockin

I really even though I hate Bale as Batman I still think its the right decision

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    Agreed.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    Simply put… Agreed. Good points.
Isn’t it frustrating, making sense to jibber jabbers.
    Respect.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    This. +1′d.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

I didn’t enjoy him in the TDK Trilogy, but even so, your points are valid.
Agreed. He’s certainly well beyond needing Batman.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    Exactly.
If Kevin Conroy had the body to match his PERFECT Batman voice…
    We’d be set. :)

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

Since Superman is a good guy…
Let’s say ZOD in his stead.
    Yes, Bane is an ant.
ZOD would smack his head off his shoulders…
    Heat vision him to ash…
    Throw him into orbit…
Freeze him (if he noted super breath) as a Bane-sickle…
    Etc, and so forth.

Please, yourself. Oh, and HUGS, :-)

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    This.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    It’s the WB…
    So…
    NO.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    A million times this…
Dini & DCA Co. to the rescue!!!

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    Dude.
A least he spent the time to recap…
The WB, and associated professionals’ wiffle waffling.
    You, are just a dick.
    So, shut it.

  • Paul Chanter

    Bull…shit.
How fast was this “ebook” written? This is another utter bullshit claim from this site.

50 mil after taxes or before?

also i am guessing if they want bale they will try to retain the look and feel of the nolan movies? otherwise makes no fucking sense.

Bale shouldn’t be in it. Leave the Nolan trilogy alone.

Well I and many others actually loved Man of Steel, stop bickering, I swear if they had to reboot and push Justice League and everything another 10 years forward because people didn’t like that the ending wasn’t all hugs and kisses, I would give up all hope in humanity.

  • oxman21

    If only :(

  • oxman21

Because you’d have a Batman taking on Super-powered space aliens, back down to a street level Batman, and no one bats an eye.

  • the_scream

Bane is one of Batmans toughest foes. In the comics, he defeats Batman and breaks his back. The same Batman takes down Superman. It doesn’t make sense, of course. That said, I don’t see why Bales Batman has to get in a physical fight with Superman. He could be the first person to discover kryptonite or build some Krypton sun lamps (see Superman Red Son) to weaken Superman. Or he could manipulate him through blackmail. But at the end of the day, they don’t even have to fight. They’re allies.

I know! They spend so much time finding faults in MoS and TDK trilogy. But they don’t realise that their favourite movies have the same if not more problems…

  • oxman21

    EXACTLY!

People bickering about how it’s too much drama, but the beautifully crafted action sequences nearly top Avengers, and it’s only the FIRST instalment of a SOLO franchise. I swear the trailer for MoS had more action than Iron Man 1.

  • Batmancw

thats why he’s not coming back CHILD–seriously, is playground insults all you can resort to when you’re dead wrong? What a pathetic loser you are. And despite your assertion to the contrary, there ARE people who know whats going on & them aside, BOTH WB & Snyder have publicly confirmed it will NOT be the same Batman, so if anyone here is a moron–its you little sparky

  • Batmancw

btw–were talking about Batman, so if you’re gonna steal someone’s insults it should be the Jokers’, not Loki spud

  • oxman21

Exactly, the author of this book would have written it back when WB was considering bringing in the Nolan Batman. This was before they decided to do a Superman/Batman movie and have no ties to TDK.

  • Batmancw

Correct–these children– Chris & Bobieto are just an ignorant insulting little trolls. Im posting what HAS been confirmed By BOTH WB & Snyder, so UNTIL or unless we hear that THEY have changed their mind–it WILL be a different Batman, It HAS to be-they are NOT gonna act as if TDKR didnt happen & say its the same Batman from the first 2 films, plus–as others have said, it will be a somewhat different “take” on Bats.

  • al

I knew it !! Christian dropped Everest ,one week later Batman vs superman was announced, The dark knight returns …

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    In an alt-timeline somewhere, sigh… :(

  • Chris

You all are jokes. Watch and see what happens. He basically noted a bunch of titles of articles about WB in the past year. He, and none of you, know shit about what they’re doing. If you all seriously believe that they don’t have any idea of what they want to do, then you all are friggin’ morons.

  • Chris

Ha. Talk about childish. You couldn’t be more wrong about this and it’s really laughable. Why do I even bother with you fools? Your ignorance is truly bliss.

  • Chris

Ok, if you’re going by that logic, NO BATMAN would be able to go toe to toe with Superman. Ugh, talk about naïve.

  • ACOD

The reason I hope they move on from Bale is that The Dark Knight Rises ending was definitive.
If Bale comes back, they will have to waste 30 minutes of a two hour movie on why he returns from retirement. There is no good answer other than WB needed him.

We have already spent 40 minutes of cinema time seeing why Batman came out of retirement once during DKR, to see it again is too derivative. It’s disappointing they blew that theme on Batman in his 30s because it ruins a Dark Knight Returns story in the Bat Nnowlanverse.

  • Chris

It’s funny how you make it seem as if I was arguing that Bane could beat Superman or Zod in this case. Absolutely ridiculous argument with no legs to stand on. Enough with your tomfoolery.

  • Hephaestus1

He basically noted a bunch of titles of articles about WB in the past year….

    Were they wrong?

  • Steve Croft

First time I saw it, I loved it. Then I realised, I loved the FX, not the story, especially the final fight. I was enamoured by flashy lights. Where was the substance? So I went and watched it a second time. It has a couple of nice moments but overall, it’s a crap *crap* film. The worst of the Ironman films. Easily.

Oddly enough the Mandarin was the best part of it for me LOL.

  • Hephaestus1

    Makes sense.

  • Goulet

If Bale returns as Batman for the forthcoming DCCU I could die happy. The quality of the Nolan Batman trilogy is as strong as a foundation you could possibly have for a potential cohesive interweaving movie universe.
    Here’s the supposed facts:
They dont want another batman origin, they want a seasoned mid career batman – CHRISTIAN BALE
This new emerging universe needs to feel comfortable and not forced – MAN OF STEEL & NOLANS BATMAN TRILOGY could easily be the same universe
Why get a new Batman when you already have a solid one, with an actor who can continue to be Batman for at least a handful more reprises.
The story makes sense to merge these two universes, after the events of The Dark Knight Rises Bruce Wayne/Batman is presumed dead, and has no estate, money or identity and his whereabouts are largely unknown, with the events in Man of Steel being the catalyst for Bruce Wayne/Batmans return, setting up Batman VS Superman perfectly.
Another Valid Point is that for DC’s universe to “catch up” to Marvel’s (who says it has to?) why not retroactively include one of the most successful fan adored franchises ever? This would predate DC’s established universe before Marvel’s (Batman Begins circa 2005, Iron Man 1 circa 2008) and the best part is its not a cop out, its the best possible move and most logical decision! It would be extremely risky for DC to introduce yet another Batman especially since they are trying to start a budding universe. The return of Bale as Batman would be the consistency and foundation for a reputable quality movie universe they are looking to establish. Now just give us a good Flash movie and DC can make some mistakes and missteps and still have enough momentum to have they’re own blockbuster DCCU!

  • http://antmanx68.deviantart.com AntmanX

Bale has said before that there’s a lot of other movies he wants to make and the success of Batman has allowed him the pull to get them made. He and Nolan did a great job of reintroducing the world to Batman on film. The story of the last one sucked, they turned Batman into a limp dick quitter. At the end of the day Bale doesn’t need Batman and Batman doesn’t need Bale. Wait and see how much fucking money this new movie makes without him. I really don’t know why people are talking like Bale is coming back. It’s NOT fucking going to happen and it was never intended to happen. The shitty ending of TDKR made sure of that. Batman has been hugely populare since before you were born and the next movie will do just fine without Christian Bale.

  • Edward Gorey

dont be ignorant. the story of man of steel is legit. but the directing and screenplay was terrible. superman was all over the screen for 30mins. the shaky camera was definitely unbearable. characters with stupid one liners literally ruined the movie for many people. i m not even sure if you know what a good movie is. & i am not sure why you are defending a bad movie when it has nothing to do with you. fanboy much?

  • Hephaestus1

At least that might give them some focus.

  • Hephaestus1

    Yes.

  • Diego Rodriguez

Super sups snaping the neck of Zod was one of the best moments in movie story

  • Diego Rodriguez

he will say no, he alreay did and i think he will stick with his guns, doesn´t need the money, he make movies to offer top quality, not movie profit, and 50 million is a bargain, the trilogy made over 2.5 billions

  • Ken Barker

So what if it made 2.5 billion? He didn’t see any of that money. He got a payment for the role, not any % off the earnings.

  • moses0507

The Dark Knight Rises RULED! but you are right that Bale is done.

  • Batmancw

I want to THANK YOU –YOUR & Bobieto’s ignorant posts just PROVE my point that most folks are too tiny minded to “get” that IF Bale WERE to return, he’d be playing a DIFFERENT Batman–both WB and Snyder have stated this is NOT the same Batman as Nolan’s & its also not the same “universe/world” as Nolan’s films , so unless or until we hear different from THEM,(and we wont) THAT is the situation

  • blacklantern

    batman needs him

  • Chris

I guess we’ll all find out in due time. Don’t act like you know everything going on inside WB.

  • blacklantern

  • Chris

Holy shit, dude. You must have the IQ of a f$#%^& ant.

  • Chris Groves

If he got a hold of Kryptonite. It’s not all about punching power…where Bats would NEVER match Supes. Strategy and brains are important.

If you are proposing a fist fight between them being anything near a stalemate…then you are beyond naive.

  • Chris Groves

The threat in Iron Man 3 was much more personal to Tony Stark than the one in The Dark Knight Rises. Thor was back in Asgard, and you could argue that Cap was on some other missions for SHIELD.

In Rises, it was a matter of a HUGE city being overtaken by terrorists and held hostage with a nuclear bomb. How in the hell could the other heroes turn a blind eye to that? It was such a massive scale event that developed over MONTHS while Iron Man 3 occurred over just a few days. By the time parties like Banner and Cap heard about what was going on with Stark and Kilian…it all could very well have been solved

They are quite far from the same situation. One is sort of ‘the largest, longest act of terror in the history of the country’ while the other is ‘a series of acts of terror in the grand scheme of a world full of acts of terror’

  • Hephaestus1

    I never said I did, dude….

  • Oligodendrocyte

Ugh, finally. I don’t understand why people praise him so much, he pretty much eliminates the heroes’ psychological difficulties, moral dilemmas, and intellectual prowess and focuses in entirely on their physical capabilities. Don’t get me wrong, their badassery is an important component and completely awesome, but there’s far more to them than that.

  • Chris

    It’s the implication.

  • Chris

Very true, but at no point did I propose a fist fight between them, therefore I am not naïve whatsoever. I simply implied that Henry Cavill does not make Bane look like a “puny ant”. You should probably read my posts and evaluate them accordingly, rather than assuming stupid shit.

  • Rob Ó Conchúir

I’m more in favour of Bale (a genuinely nice guy, an actor’s actor and an individual who repeatedly performs random acts of supreme kindness to sick children – never publicising it) returning for a Multi-Generational Emperor’s Fortune for a throwaway moneymaker that I will likely consider non-canon anyway than I am with some faceless fucking MTV’s Teen Wolf impostor coming along and giving a performance that I actually know wouldn’t even be as good as my own.

  • Pingback: Movieblog.nl » Scott Adkins zou auditie hebben gedaan voor de rol van Batman

  • Rob Ó Conchúir

Bale would not be crazy not to take it. Knowing that there is more to life than mountains of money is specifically NOT crazy.

  • Hephaestus1

    Okay.

  • jamthemaj

Honestly, I hope this is true. A big part of me does anyway. Bale IS Batman in my book, and I would rather him continue as Batman instead of WB rebooting the character so soon. I believe they could write a good story as to why he would come back, something to do with paranoia and Superman. You know how Batman is!

That said, I totally understand why Nolan and Bale would NOT want to cheapen the ending of their near-perfect trilogy (though if done well, it wouldn’t cheapen it). If they decide to do so, and Bale does indeed come back, I hope it is his love for the character that makes him want to revisit it, not a big wad of cash.

  • myclawismypenis

When you start to make sense..ill listen.

  • jamthemaj

Completely agreed! I also saw it three times, and I’ve said the same things to others elsewhere. I’m tired of the complaints and whining about MOS not being in line with Reeve’s films. Get over it!

Tomfoolery? Indeed. Your new name, is Tom.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

Awwws, someone needs a nappy nap, Tom.

  • Mindless Drones!!

Bale getting offered $50 million is not true. It’s just a rumor that some idiot wrote in his unofficial bio on Bale to sell his stupid book. Wake up people. Use you brains!! I think Bale’s Batman was written kinda pathetic. He’s supposed to be the smartest detective in the world? He got duped by everyone in all 3 films. He didn’t know that Neesom was Ra’s al Ghul. He couldn’t figure out Jokers plan and save Rachel in part 2. He didn’t know Thalia was al Ghul’s kid. He got tossed around like a rag doll by Bane. He let Catwoman steal his finger prints and Bane bankrupt his company.. Don’t get me wrong. I loved all three movies and how they concluded, and I think Bale is a fantastic actor, but you really think this is the guy who could take on Superman and be on par with other members of the Justice League? Also, what was up with the throat cancer voice? Time to move on people. Give the role to someone new. I can’t wait till they announce the new actor and put all these idiots with their rumors to rest!!

  • Chris

    Someone needs a slappy slap.

  • Cliff Hesby

After a certain point how much they can get paid is just the Hollywood equivalent of counting coupe. Did Robert Downey JR NEED his Avengers payout? No of course not, he had made enough money to keep his family secure and comfortable forever long before he did the first Iron Man movie although his finances may have been strained by his chemical dependency and legal difficulties he worked steadily for years in high profile movies.

How much an actor can command is a Hollywood power marker and power translates into being able to work when and on what projects you want to.

So why would Bale sue even if this isn’t true? The rumor, credible or otherwise, that you can command a $50 million dollar payday is worth almost as much as the offer would be if you don’t plan to take it either way.

  • Chris

That’s a valiant attempt at humor, in which you failed miserably.

  • KaiChen

That is the best explanation I have ever read for why Nolan’s Batman is actually not at all like ‘the’ Batman.

The thing that sets Batman apart is that he is smart. Without it, he’s a rich guy with expensive toys and some martial arts training.

Nolan’s Batman also spent most of his time trying NOT to be Batman. Which ‘the’ Batman wouldn’t normally do, save for extreme circumstances, once he’s batman and Bruce Wayne is a mere disguise.

  • KaiChen

Plus it’s not like he needs or will need any money. Ever again.

The guy is likely set for life and can live on interests.

  • KaiChen

They could get someone like Matt Bomer.

  • Chris Groves

Henry Cavill does not make Tom Hardy look like a puny ant…but yes, Superman…THE Superman, the character in MOS, who can fly, has super strength, heat vision, super speed, the works…would eat Bane, the character(especially as presented in The Dark Knight Rises) for breakfast.

  • KaiChen

Besides, 4 actors have played Batman on film, only one of these movies (Batman & Robin) is considered a flop and even that movie made hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide, especially if adjusted for inflation.

  • KaiChen

Well, David Goyer, who’s writing the script, has gone on record to say that Batman vs. Superman will feature a new batman, not connected to Nolanverse.

    As for who could….

Doesn’t matter, Marvel ownes comic flicks!
    Even when they suck!

  • Chagui

Here’s why I think this “rumor” does not hold water:

Bale has said several times that his time as Batman is done, the story is done, they finished, he would only comeback if the story is right and IF and only IF Nolan is involved. Nolan will be an executive producer in Supes/Bats, barely there.

Regarding continuity: Bale’s/Nolan’s Batman is retired for a reason, he’s body is in shambles, he’s a shadow of what he used to be as Batman, he left it all fighting Bane and is now living happily with Selina and spending most of the money he was able to save in his medical care (he doesn’t have any cartilage left in his knees and elbows, he has brain damage, he has kidney scarring, etc, etc.)

There is absolutely no need to follow Marvel’s plans. It worked for Marvel, it doesn’t need to work for DC, DC needs to make their own gameplan, no need to copy anybody. Marvel’s plan is not a Bible, each company can manage their property the way the want, as long as they provide good product, there’s no rule or guide on how to manage their properties.

DC is right in creating a completely separate universe for their DC characters apart from the Nolan trilogy, a new Batman is needed, and this coming from a guy who worships the ground where Nolan and Bale stepped during their trilogy.

  • Lurk Kent

false rumor the actually says “He could probably make $50 million for being in the movie 20 minutes,” my friend observed. “And it would be worth every penny to the studio.”

  • Chris Minato

I hate DC and i thought MOS kicked ass. I was ready for superman to flop so hard but lets face it DC makes actual movies and treats their characters with a level of respect that Marvel never will. I hope Bale returns and blows avengers 2 out of the water. Maybe then marvel will get their act together and hire some real directors .

  • Chris Minato

Exactly Ep Marvel uses quantity over quality. Captain america and iron man 3 are bad enough but even the avengers now seems cliche and dated. Avengers basically had the plot to the phineas and ferb direct to dvd movie except avengers wasn’t nearly as good. I hope for a dark ant man movie because Pym really is not a joke as everyone thinks he is but lets face it, everyone wants Simon Pegg to play. Maybe guardians of the galaxy can carry a more mature theme but i heard the comic con trailer made it sound like a comedy. At least marvel keeping pumping out movies though right? No matter how poorly they represent their title characters. The only one who has been done any justice is Thor although Iron Man 2 was fantastic as well.

  • Bobieto

I’m the moron? HAAA firstly, these aren’t playground insults I’m throwin at you. I could say, you’re a piece of terd though cause that’s obviously true. YOU BLOW MY MIND YOU PIECE OF BULLSHIT!!!! Holy god, if he were to come back, which we all know (or think) isn’t going to happen, he wouldn’t be the new Batman. That’s literally the only thing I disagree with, you rediculous ingrate. If Bale comes back, the Nolan world comes with him, and becomes one with the MOS world. That is a fact. I know, I know. That’s why “he’s not coming back because they’re doing a new Batman”. I know.

  • Snake Feldman

Bale will not be reprising his role as The Batman in the sequel to the Man Of Steel! Which he stated. He said that “it is time to pass the torch”! He gave 10 of his best years to The Dark Knight! He also said that he’s excited to see what someone else will come up with! That also means that Bale will have to comeback in a JLA movie, and a spin-off from the MOS movie… not gonna happen! Let’s have someone else to don the cape and cowl!

  • oxman21

Cap was good, Avengers was great. I don’t think you understand how difficult it is to pull of a multi-franchise ensemble like that, especially since it hadn’t been done before.

Guardians of the Galaxy is supposed to be a comedy sci-fi thing.
    Iron Man 2 was awful.

all i know is, snyder will fuck this up like he did man of steel, goyer as well. bunch of clowns.

  • d32z

i agree too, i saw it twice at the movies, i hear a lot of bullshit from people saying it lacked heart, not in line with reeve’s movies, no character building for superman, but i think people’s biggest problem with it is that man of steel introduced Clark as an alien, so all of a sudden with general film going audiences with decades of superman being basically a really handsome dude with really massive strength (oversimplifying of course). Now he is literally an alien, they grounded his powers, they showed where he was really born, i loved man of steel and im a big superman fan, I even liked returns! but i will say i was at first a little taken back at how i felt when i saw clark literally being introduced as an alien. But then i realised that’s what he is and what a clever way to reintroduce arguably the world’s most recognisable hero, in a way which makes a general audience feel as though it is something completely new or even haha alien! (sorry couldnt help myself)

Bale was absolutely 100 percent forgettable as Batman in all those movies – they succeeded in spite of him thanks to good direction and the rest of the cast.

  • Ryan

I think Christian Bale should be a good sport, and do the movie for $50million. If this somehow conflicts with his principles, give the money to a worthy cause…like setting up a college scholarship program. You could send around 600 kids to college for $50million. That would be legendary.

  • ANTI Douche

Very true. Minus his combustibleness, he is about playing people.
He clearly has shown, and stated, through his career…

  • NoResolution

Batman Begins was great. After that, meh. Good thinking Christian Bale you don’t need to be bribed back into bad stories of Bruce/Batman full of holes that your main geek audience is too blind to admit that Chris Nolan’s Batman is really not that good after Batman Begins.

  • Tim Field

Bale is no Downey jr, he was a good batman because he was in good batman movies, not the other way around.

  • Rob0729

I don’t think Batman needs Bale. The true drawing power of the trilogy was Nolan, not Bale.

I personally thought Bale was only a decent Batman. He worked well as Bruce Wayne. His Batman had little personality. It was just him grunting out his dialog.

I would welcome another actor to the role. As long as the cast the right actor, it could be an upgrade.

The Nolan Batman is done. Keeping Bale could be jarring with a different take on Batman.

  • Chris

No shit. I wasn’t arguing that at any point.

  • Rob0729

Time to move on from Bale. The Nolanverse Batman is done. This is going to be a different take on Batman. Even with MOS being more grounded in reality, it isn’t remotely real enough for Nolan’s Batman Universe.

Personally, I never loved Bale in the role. He nailed the Bruce Wayne character. His performance as Batman left something to be desired. He didn’t bring nearly as much to the role when he donned the cowl like say Michael Keaton. By choosing the Batman voice he did, it made it hard to deliver his lines in any way other than one.

I want a new Batman who fits into this universe. Not thrilled with the idea of this movie, but love the take on Batman they are rumored to be making. I would rather have another actor do it. I think Josh Brolin would nail THIS Batman. Granted his messy divorce with Dianne Lane might make his casting impossible.

  • Chris

I can get on board that, matie!

  • Chris

    I just lol’ed

  • FanFreakinTastic

Downey earned $75mil for IronMan 3 so its not soo crazy. And Batman being far superior in the trilogy department in comparisson to the train wreck IM3 was.

Did you even watch the film? The world machine destroyed most of Metropolis. In a post 9-11 world, the folks in the office buildings wouldve evacuated after the first tremor.

If you actually paid attention, Superman and Zod actually fought inside a RANDOM skyscraper, and guess what? THE ENTIRE FLOOR WAS EVACUATED!!!!

Being a white collar worker myself, I can say that this doesn’t happen unless there’s an emergency. WHICH IT WAS.

By the time Superman made it back to Metropolis from the OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET, AT LEAST 90 minutes had passed. Plenty of time for those alive to evacuate.

Please play close attention to the backgrounds and learn about orbital physics/intercontinental travel before pissing on a plausible movie.

Yep. The e-book makes the false assumption that being a box office draw like a Depp or Downey Jr. is his primary concern. He is a box office draw. But top directors (Aronofsky, Malick, O. • R-Blaze

lol!! he never claimed he was a film critic.

  • d32z

exactly, even though nolan etc etc explicitly stated that it is a Snyder film, i feel as though you can sense nolan’s DNA throughout the entire film, and even Nolan knows this, that the film will be drawn in comparison to his trilogy. This means that already people are viewing this film with a completely different mindset to a marvel film, and don’t get me wrong I love the marvel films, but all of a sudden people aren’t watching a popcorn flick anymore, people like us, the geeks or nerds or whatever you want to call us, recognise that the caliber of film has gone from just a blockbuster or an action movie to ‘high art’ people don’t care if the avengers or ironman gets an oscar nod or not, but there was an extremely polarising and strong response when the dark knight rises didn’t even get a single nomination.

I can watch the avengers more often than rises or man of steel, i really enjoyed it, it was such a fun flick, but that’s only because i feel as though the dark knight trilogy and MOS were much much heavier films, not always so easy just to sit down and turn on and veg out to.

just having my two cents guys! no hate here!

  • FanFreakinTastic

I’d have to disagree with your analysis on IM3 I saw a buddy cop film with Rhodie, ala Shane Black (Lethal Weapons, Last Boyscout) Mandarin became a joke, and all the suits had to play off like a fireworks finale to make up for the lack of story development. And Tony walking away from the suits? Make sense after what they delt with in NY with Avengers. IM3 needed Favreau as he was quoted when he was dumped as director, “Marvel has a certain way they wanted to go with the film and I had a vision of what I thought it should go, I really don’t think they know what they want” well said Jon.

  • Drew Pierce

This reminds me of when Brett Favre was finished with football after the 2009 season, but the Vikings wanted him so bad, they upped their deal to $25 million to come back which was tough to turn down and he came back. I could believe an offer like this was made to Bale if WB feels they really can’t find a Batman they’re happy with. And if so, I couldn’t blame Bale in the slightest for changing his mind. $50 million even it was for 3 films is tough to turn down.

  • Drew Pierce

When you’re offered $50 million there’s no such thing as “don’t need the money”. It’s not like their offering him $50m to do gay racist porn or something.

Edward says the truth! I hated MOS and it was the terrible directing, acting, screenplay, and cast which did it for me. I could not stand the movie sorry to all the fans out there of MOS. The only way they could get me to watch a sequel to that horse shit is if BALE was in it as BATMAN! This would be the only way to bring me back. IF NOT I’m done with WB/DC for a long while.

Indeed, I feel robbed of the chance of a good Mandarin. (Jokes about hitting the fruit store…)

They said Killian or whatever his name was, was the ‘real’ mandarin, but that’s easily fixed in a future movie where they simply retcon it. The REAL Mandarin comes along, says he was an impostor, who unjustly claimed his name etc, now he’s back etc etc.

  • NYCS

Get your facts straight. He wasn’t dumped as a director. He was doing Cowboys Vs. Aliens, and couldn’t do both. Not to mention, he’s an exec producer on IM3 — he had a huge say in the matter — so it’s not like they kicked him to the curb.

  • oxman21

The handheld camera was for the good. It gives off a certain effect, if you stopped being so ignorant you could actually notice this method does give the dialogue a little more intimacy. Why the hell would they decide to record everything on a handheld camera if they didn’t think it would benefit the movie?

“Man of Steel was just all action”
“Man of Steel had too much boring drama”
^ That’s proof that neither of those arguments are legitimate.

You’re just another one of the hipsters who hopped on the “Man of Steel was crap” train to feel like you have better taste in film than anyone else. The shaky camera doesn’t say anything about Snyder being bad, seems more like something you’d pick up if you were deliberately trying to find a fault in the movie.

It was directed well, not perfect, but good.
What would you expect them to do?

“Man of Steel had shaky cameras and was stupid because the ending wasn’t all hugs-and-kisses, so we’re rebooting once again with some baby-face like Brandon Routh and making it more happy. Justice League will be pushed back another 1000 years just to make these “educated film enthusiasts” happy.

It worked so well for Bond. It wasnt the actors that ruined Batman. It was the director and writers.
A new Batman is necessary. Bale’s not even a very good Batman.

  • Steve Croft

This is true and it’s not even deniable at all. Personally I’d love to see a new actor as Batman. I really don’t like his throaty voice. Good point about Bond :) and I concede 110% it was Schumacher who ruined it, but then, Clooney wasn’t a good choice… lol.

I still think the design for the Joker could be kept. He looked spectacular :D Plus, get Guy Pearce to play him!

  • npabebangin

lmfao this is laughable. He’s a good actor, and if he wants to leave The Dark Knight behind. So be it. It’s been clearly stated that Nolan’s Bat-verse and the Man of Steel Universe are not one in the same, they were never connected, and Bale as Bats again will confuse auditions.

  • smb73

Matter of opinion. I’ve enjoyed every single movie Synder has made, Sucker Punch was the only film that didn’t thrill me the way his other films has. Besides, he’s the only one aside from Christopher Nolan who can compete against Whedon’s Avengers and that’s what WB needs to do for this to succeed.

  • TruthHurts

Tune in Summer ’15 for the new WB movie “Beating off The Batman”…….Followed quickly by 2016′s The Justice League: Circlejerk

  • nar

i have a hard time believing you hate dc with this kind of statement. marvel films has treated their characters well and hired GREAT directors. you must be talking about the sony and fox marvel movies. if marvel’s act wasn’t together, dc wouldn’t be trying to copy them…mos had a bad script and a great cast…it was a ruined opportunity.

  • Captain Ron

Well, a few things. I’ve worked in publishing and have dealt first-hand with libel cases and legal issues (although I’m not a lawyer). I do know this: First, libel is written, slander is spoken. Second, in order to prove libel, you have to prove that you suffered damages as a result. I can’t see Christian Bale proving that his reputation or career was “damaged” by the claim of being offered $50 million. Same goes for Warner Brothers.

  • nar

marvel has had plans for years, stuff that is happening now was planned out in 2005-2006. dc is the one “rushing” movies. the only quality dc has put out was the batman and tdk. if dc was concerned about getting things right, it would actually have batman be the genius detective he is in the comics and not the rich emo law school drop out ninja of nolan’s movies. what nolanites don’t get is nolan was saying anyone can be batman…which flies in the face of the character. yes he is a symbol, but batman is the greatest detective of all time. he is an inventor, an engineer, and scientist. he didn’t just train his body…he trained his mind…that is why he is an equal to wonderwoman and superman even though he has no super powers.

  • nar

whining and complaining about people with differing opinions is also..whiining and complaining…

mos had potential to be great. it had an amazing cast, but the script was terrible. i didn’t need to see mos 3 times to know the city wasn’t evacuated. the people were going about their everyday lives when everything went down, because they thought it was over due to the fact superman surrendered. even if they were evacuating. there wouldn’t be enough time to evacuate a city as big as metropolis (new york). in superman 2 you have no idea if the 3 were murdered. it’s an assumption on your part. how about if i assume they fell into a phantom zone like prison? mos wasted an emotional crisis moment for the hero, instead of setting it up like in tdk. we still don’t completely know this superman as a character. people laud the darkness and “realism” yet, this movie is filled with gaping plot holes.

I suppose what you’re saying could work (I’d watch it) I thought he hurt the knee when he fell saving Gordon’s son? Of course that wouldn’t have to be the ”only” time that he hurt that knee either. It could’ve happened during a WF or JL moment.

  • GeO

Is this a serious reply? I’m not sure if your kidding or just bad at math. Well, just in case it’s the latter, here goes anyway. Christian Bale was reportedly offered $50M to do another (or few) batman movies. Now, since his previous trilogy added up to $2.5 Billion then paying him $50M for his next installment(s) would be considered a deal for the studios. Because This one movie alone would globally pass the $1Billion mark…If not more. To sum up, Studios get over $1 Billion and Christian gets $50m. See…a bargain!

  • Onyx

True. But if there was a fight there is always Zod’s armor to protect Bats from a superpunch or slam..

  • Edward Gorey

HAHAHAHA “certain effects” like i said ignorance is bliss. you dont even know what a director’s job is. “Why the hell would they decide to record everything on a handheld camera if they didn’t think it would benefit the movie?” because he is a shitty director????? how are you even asking this question??? its cool if you enjoyed superman flying on the screen for 30 mins and going through 100 walls. you are entitled to your opinion. i am not wasting my time to school you

thats why i said you dont know what a good movie should be. pure CG with big budget does not make a movie good. i am sure a 15 year old kid like you would love it because it is just like a video game. right?

by the way, no one said anything about the ending or actors.i am sure you really enjoyed those stupid one liners like ” OH i think he is kinda hot” or “no it stands for hope” and more.

Was it an oscar-worthy screenplay? No. Was it fun to watch? Hell yes. I don’t even like Superman and I appreciate good directing and i STILL really enjoyed MOS. You can nitpick all you want, but it’s a SUPERMAN movie and he’s going to do SUPERMAN things like fly around punch people and crash through walls. If you want profound themes and philosophical depth go watch the tree of life. It’s a fucking SUPERMAN movie. Were you not hugged enough as a child? Or maybe too much…

  • scott

That’s interesting because I’m pretty sure the climax of the film is an intense moral dilemma (taking one life that is the last of his species to save a family) that once played out leaves Superman devastated. This was an origin story, and he actually has to get some experience for there to be “psychological difficulties” or “intellectual prowess”

  • Brian Knockin

Or for all 3 movies the Mandarin has had some involvement I think he will be back sooner or later and Iron Man movies are about to take a break he will only appear in Avengers for a few years so maybe when its time for new Iron Man we can have The Mandarin involved

  • Steve Croft

Indeed. Nobody will ever be able to replace Ledger. So lets get a new Joker. Don’t even explain it. A different look, a different actor, a different Joker.

  • Steve Croft

“in superman 2 you have no idea if the 3 were murdered.”

I guess the fact he built his Fortress of Solitude above a continent of ice led me to think it… plus there’s the fact they didn’t get sent there, as to be sent to the phantom zone, it requires a device to imprison them as per superman lore.

The 3 were made mortal and dropped in chasms, sorry but they were killed. I get you’re making excuses for it, but no.

  • oxman21

It helps with the immersion and makes the scenes more intimate and grounded. It’s funny how you’re claiming I’m ignorant, when you’re the one who hasn’t answered everything I’ve mentioned. “Ignorance is Bliss” sums it up pretty well. He’s not my favourite director either, but I’m pretty sure even he wouldn’t say ‘HEY LETS USE A HANDHELD CAMERA BECAUSE YEAH”. Even then, Goyer, Nolan and basically everyone else on set probably would’ve considered the pros and cons of this, wouldn’t they? It’s a Superman movie, “Sorry, we’ll just compress all the flying into a 2 minute montage and have him walk for the rest of the movie, and just to make sure they don’t crash heaps of buildings, they’ll have a pleasant and polite thumb wrestle in space.”

School me? That doesn’t smell like an elitist to me… I hate movies that are purely action and have terrible characters. MoS was not that. I’m not 15, and am not a huge fan of games. I think it’s more likely that you’re just another one of those young guys that went to film school and think they somehow are more civilised and have real taste as opposed to the rest of the world population. If you hated it so much, just go make your own amazing, brilliant film.

The title – “L’ignorance est félicité: Les mémoires de vie des professionnels du cinéma Edward Gorey.”

The “hot” quote was frustrating, but if you’d seen many blockbusters these days, that’s nothing. If it bothered you so much, the Transformers trilogy should have given you a stroke. But that was the only one. “No, it stands for hope” – woo, man, that screams one-liner to me, can’t believe I didn’t see that….

Tried, and done. Funny thing is, I haven’t really studied film and I know more than you. The only ‘professional critique’ you have of Snyder is “the shaky camera was unbearable”.

  • oxman21

Bottom Line: This new universe needs a Batman that is more like the Über Batman from the comics. A Brilliant Detective, Charismatic, Ridiculously wealthy, schools in EVERY form of martial arts, incredibly strong and mind-bogglingly theatrical.

That is the ONLY type of Batman that will fit in the new DC universe in the direction that Man of Steel is already going. And that will be the ONLY Batman that will have enough ability, smarts and resources to pose an adequate challenge to Superman.

No Bale. No Young Batman. No Really Old Batman.
We need a Batman in his early to mid 30′s who is already in an established universe of his own. So when Superman enters that universe…..it is seamless…and Batman is experienced enough to defend it using all of his resources and abilities.

That is the only Batman that will work.

Since he produced Man of Steel, it’s a good guess he’ll be back producing the sequel. And may be the final influence on Bale to come back to the role.

From what I recall, he DID have a fallout with Marvel AND he wanted to do him own film. You’re both right.

  • Dan Riedel

How many times do people have to say to you: by the time Superman fought Zod, AT LEAST 90 minutes have passed.

That’s 90 minutes of the world engine LEVELING METROPOLIS. Either the people evacuated after the 2nd tremor, or they stayed and died.

In a 9-11 world, the chances are, they evacuated. Especially considering that Zod discovered his heat vision is…GASP… an EVACUATED SKYSCRAPER!!!!

  • Dan Riedel

ALSO! If you want to compare Apples to Oranges, Christopher Reeves’ Clark Kent (either as himself or as Superman) killed the following:

Zod (Superman II) – he didn’t appear in ANY sequels, behind bars or otherwise, so he’s dead
Evil Superman (Superman III) – stragulation
Faux-Brainiac (Superman III) – he blasted the robot chick back into the machine and the whole thing fell on her.
Nuclear Man (Superman IV) – thrown into a Nuclear power plant

I personally think Man of Steel’s weakness WAS in fact Zod’s death, but because it was TOO CLICHE AND TOO FAST. It’ should’ve been drawn out – Superman should’ve choked the life out of him. Seeing the heat vision wane because the life is being squeezed out of Zod would’ve been more dramatic and heavy.

THEY NEED BALE IN THIS ASAP TO BE A SUCCESS MAN OF STEEL WASS AMAZING JAWWW DROPPING ASS WHOPPING MIND BLOWING HEART STOPPING NONE STOP ACTTION THIS WILL BE THE SAME WITH BAT AND MAN OF STEEL!!

  • Onyx

Yeah that would be a tough one.

So many questions would have to be answered. Sadly,I think Nolan left it right where he wanted to leave it..as a means to an end.

come on Edward Gorey, stop yapping at everybody off this huge high horse. Ok so the director sucks. care to elaborate on how beyond a little shaky cam? Have you gone to film school yet? been through a few years myself, how’s it goin at yours? Yeah I didn’t really like the hover-zoomy camerawork in the long shots, and sure the movie could’ve been better, but pretty much every movie always could be better. I don’t know about YOU, but what matters to me when determining what I think of a movie is if I’m entertained watching it. Aside from the aforementioned fidgety wide shots I had a good time at the theater with the movie. It’s not perfect, but unless you’ve tried to do it yourself don’t pretend to think you know everything. I mean, the “it stands for hope” thing isn’t even a one-liner. It’s part of a conversation, and also fairly canon to the brand since at least 2004, so it made sense to say. Know what a one-liner means. There were one liners in there, but at least pick better ones.

I hate the shaky-cam trend. always have. It’s why I don’t enjoy cloverfield more. It’s one of the many reasons I’ll always resent what they did to Transformers, and something I would like to contribute towards moving away from. But the level of it in MoS did not bug me enough to throw me off the film.

You say “you’re entitled to your opinon… etc” but then you always immediately rip into how ignorant they are for having said opinion. Especially without seemingly realizing that what you’re saying is just your OWN opinion. Stop that. You can’t let anyone enjoy something you don’t like, can you?

  • Gatewave

why do so many people love Bale’s Bruce/Batman to the point of saying no one else should be him?

sure he’s fine and probably the best film representation so far, and made a decent BATMAN, but what about the bat-voice that everyone’s complained about since Dark Knight? and he’s really never been exactly what I wanted in a BRUCE WAYNE either. Why can’t a new actor top his take in a way we couldn’t think of yet? The way they’ve been done I want the Bale/Nolan films to stay in their own world and get a fresh take for the shared universe.

call me a 90s fan boy if you wish but I still want to see a good film representation of Kevin Conroy’s Bruce Wayne/Batman. By that I’d mean either the Animated Series Batman or the Arkham game Batman elevated to the real world.

Another site is reporting that The Sun has reported this story as well only they are claiming the offer is for 60 million.

An ebook,The Sun? There can’t be any truth to this story whatsoever..

  • ejd1984

Just a thought: Both the WB and Bale camps have been conspicuously quiet since this story broke. The silence could really mean that there is some validity to this story/rumor, and negotiations are currently ongoing.

  • Batfreak

That’s what I mean. But who knows? As far as Nolan says he’s concerned, his continuity is over. Of course, J.J. Abrams said he had no interest in doing Star Wars Episode VII when it was first announced, and now he’s the director. Without Legendary, I hope they can pull it off. Whatever the story is.

  • Onyx

I guess we should never say never because anything is possible.

For what its worth? Yahoo News is reporting that sources close to Bale have begun expressing their suspicions that Bale now views the Batman movies in the same light that Robert Downey Jr. views the Iron Man films.

Would love to see Bale return but I still have continuity issues with trying to tie the two universes together. If this isn’t accomplished in the right way then the whole thing is a wash in my book.

  • Orlɛanž

He wasn’t able to go toe to toe with him in the comics, fool. Superman was faking the whole time, pretending to be ‘hurt’ until Batman pulled out the Kryptonite. Read the comic.

people are talking about the grounded nature and realism of the film and a city the size of new york was evacuated in 90 minutes? they had no idea about zod’s true intentions. NONE! as far as the world was concerned zod got what he wanted and was outtie…the fact you’re stating the skycraper was empty doesn’t mean it isn’t a huge plot hole…heck, look at the final zod scene. a family was in a out and about on their daily routine, yet you’re saying everyone is evacuated…but this lone mcguffin family…completely ignored the “off screen” pleas of the mayor and police commissioner to evacuate the city…the entire staff of the daily planet evidently ignored the evacuation also…you can’t have it both ways..either they evacuated or they didn’t…

i won’t even acknowledge the other comments. obviously, “off screen” imaginary arguments only matter if they benefit you…

  • Dan Riedel

Batman managed to escape the Nuclear blast in TDKR due to some trickery with movie time, anything is possible.

But you do bring up a good and very valid point.

My real argument is that when you’re dealing with a genocidal maniac, you have to do whatever it takes to stop him, everything else is collateral damage.

People act like THIS never happened:

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-evJ2iMeaf5M/UcuGQrUb2rI/AAAAAAAAB0c/fReSVidk86U/s400/1077649.jpg

Superman couldn’t even stop Doomsday from leveling Metropolis, and a fool would think he could lure someone trying to KILL everyone out of a place called METROPOLIS (meaning super duper big f*kking city!)

Superman had to fight him in Metropolis to prevent him from leveling Metropolis, the damage that was incurred was simply collateral damage. That’s what happens in wars, schools get bombed, kids get killed.

    Get over it.

  • Dan Riedel

My last comment must’ve not posted.

BUT like I mentioned before, in the white collar world, which I’m actually a part of, at any sign of danger today you evacuate. Whether it’s a Tornado, an earth quake, or even severe thunderstorms. Sure the people couldn’t evacuate the city, but the buildings themselves would have been. Especially in a post 9-11 world. That’s a fact.

The fact there weren’t many on the streets is a major plot hole, but I guess they tried to solve that problem by showing people flee below (the scene with Perry, etc), and having MOST of the fight take place in the air.

“Off screen” events happened all the time. The most recent one: The Dark Knight Rises, when he jumped out of the Bat to save himself from the nuke detonation.

The biggest issue I have with these whiners is about Superman being wreckless – he didn’t have a choice. THE SAME RESULT HAPPENED IN THE COMICS. When he fought Doomsday there was just as much destruction to Metropolis…especially when Doomsday tripped an underground gasline.

And I’m sorry, you can’t lure a genocidal maniac from a place with the name “Big f*cking city with a lot of people.” That’s like trying to get a nun to perform a strip tease. Zod essentially became Doomsday in the last act. He had to be stopped at any cost – it’s not like that doesn’t happen in war. Suburbanites and the censored need to wake up and leave their homes – there’s a world outside!

  • nar

dig your passion, but yes he did have a choice, but the writer was more concerned about the cool destroy the buildings and blow stuff 3rd act to give superman a level of depth beyond a grunting cave man… if this was a Michael bay film nolanites would be murdering it…

the fact you blow off people dying as “collateral damage” totally flies in the face of why superman killed zod and why he was sent to earth in the first place. also, the city battle made no sense. he showed no regard for life smashing buildings but killed zod to protect a family. horrible plot hole.

    get over it! lol.
