Hey, don’t forget there has to be a bad guy for the upcoming “Superman Vs. Batman.”

Actor Mark Strong kind of winked at Digital Spy about the rumors that might be the next Superman. He said to them:

“All I can say is….watch this space.”

Okay, whatever that means.

On the other hand, our very own El Mayimbe is suggesting a very different actor as Lex Luthor.

He playfully hinted via his own Twitter that it might be Bryan Cranston.

Here are some of his Tweets below.

So who do you prefer? Mark Strong or Bryan Cranston. I say Cranston, because Strong had his chance already in a “Green Lantern” movie. But, both are good actors anyways.

  • Larry Fenix

Billy Zane for Lex. It’s very obvious. He’s perfect for Lex.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

Great actors. Not for Lex, though.
    Just get Clancy Brown.
The voice of Lex form DC Animated.
Plus, the most badass Highlander villan, ever…
The Kurgen. Huge, bald, and scary as heck.

  • jamthemaj

Either Cranston or Strong would be perfect for the role! I’d be happy either way. I can’t wait for 2015!

  • Hephaestus1

I honestly can’t see Bryan Cranston as a bad guy.

  • jamthemaj

Clancy Brown is way too old now; he’s 54. He was great on the animated series; I agree there. I think Strong and Cranston would both be perfect as Lex.

  • Jet Jaguar

Marc Strong as a villian…so against type it’s genius.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

Bryan is 57, and Mark is 50. Clancy is in the middle. Heh heh. ;)
If they got Clancy in shape. He would be perfect.
That said, he isn’t a draw, and wouldn’t get it.
Bryan and Mark, are both awesome.
    So, I’d settle for either.
    Cheers. :)

  • jamthemaj

You know, as I typed that I thought to myself, self, I bet they’re both in their 50s as well. But then I didn’t look and I submitted away! I didn’t realize that Strong was 50. I should’ve known Cranston was since he’s been around forever! I loved him in Seinfeld! I retract my original statement. All three would be awesome! :D

  • venvariants

Doesn’t Superman have any other villain???? This is part of what makes Superman so hard to keep the public interested – crappy villain. All the years of comics, and he’s got just one guy to fight?? DROP IT. Give him someone to fight who isn’t damn Zod, man.

  • Evil Gooey

Terry O’Quinn… hands down the best crazy eyed 1000 yard stare you will find.

  • KryptonianWarrior

Why? Because he LOOKS like Lex? There’s a reason why he’s not cast in major movies. There’s a reason why you mostly see him in low budget, direct-to-DVD movies. You would think if he was a decent actor, his phone would be ringing.

  • jamthemaj

Lex isn’t Zod. :) I think you meant Lex. They have to do Lex! He’s Superman’s arch villain. I’m sure they’ll be another villain, and they’ll bring in more for other sequels. I would love to see Lex done right on the big screen. People need to forget the campy version that Hackman and Spacey played.

  • jamthemaj

Maybe he really loved The Phantom. :D

  • sonrix

I like him, but too old, for the role,

  • sonrix

what about Jason Statham, I think he could be a real baddy and not a goofy one like Spacey & Hackman

  • venvariants

No – Lex does the real estate schemes. The one he FIGHTS is Zod. Supes doesn’t fight Lex, he just flies around cleaning up his mess. I should have been clearer. Anyhow. And I’m sure the next one in line is this Brainiac, whoever he is. That doesn’t sound too action-packed, either to be honest.

  • oxman213

He can easily fight Lex. Read some comics. Brainiac is awesome, but I thought they’d probably do Doomsday eventually.

  • MIXTER

Brian Cranston = Commissioner Gordon (again!-he played him in Batman Year one animated movie. And looks the part perfectly!)

Mark Strong would be a good as Lex, but so would many Bald actors. Take your pic on that one.

And for people saying NO Lex for the sequel… have you not seen MOS? It is basically set up for Lex and Batman in the sequel! Question is, will Lex team up with another super-being villain? if so, who?

  • MIXTER

Betting, and hoping he’s commissioner Gordon, but, theoretically, Cranston has a dark side on screen when he wants to. Have you never seen Breaking Bad?

  • MIXTER

Yesss!!! John Lock for Lex! Though, depends how physical hes gonna be in character. sceming business man, yes. Krypton powered robot suit, maybe not. Though jeff bridges did ok in iron-man.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

Oh, your, :) I dig, how you’re one of the most chill commentators here.
Respect. Agreed. All three, options are cool cats

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

I could argue he could get fit or he’ll be CG’ed into a Power Suit…
Like seeing Jeff Bridges against RDJ in Iron Man, but it would look off.
So… Agreed, too old. He’s is though, the best Lex voice personal ever.
Time to fire up Superman: TAS or some JLU. :)

  • Jdog

Call me Crazy, But I think Jason Statham could pull an interesting Lex. If he wasn’t already in every other movie, I’d also say Michael Fassbender.

  • Tavaris M Johnson

Cranston is an excellent choice…I’m just not in favor of and older Batman. Especially if this is leading into A Justice League movie!

  • Moses

Richard Burgi Hid charm, wit, the way he speaks says Lex Luther.

  • Ricky Davila

I think Lex should relatively the same age as Clark Kent. I personally like Matthew Goode to play him, if he shaved his head. He had a Lex-God-complex in him in Watchmen . That’s just my honest opinion

  • Moses

I did the best I could lol

  • Xmasevebaby

Why not go the Christopher Reeve route and get a total unknown who would forever be typecast as Lex?

If you’ve ever listened to the Director’s commentary for Superman The Movie, Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz recalled how Mario Puzo’s first draft had a cameo for Kojak’s Telly Savalas because he was big at the time. They were actually going to have Savalas say “Who loves ya, baby?” to Superman…WTF?

If they cast Cranston, we’re only going to see Walter White’s bald ass head and wonder why he shaved his goatee. If they cast Mark Strong, then we’re only going to be reminded of that Van Wilder’s Green Lantern. And Kick Ass. And John Carter…

  • chaburchak

I’d rather see Mark Strong as Dr. Strange…

  • jamthemaj

Lex and his real estate schemes are from the old movies. He doesn’t do that crap anymore. He’s a corporate villain and eventually becomes President of the US. And Supes does fight Lex; Lex has a robotic suit. Brainiac is awesome. There’s also Doomsday and Darkseid.

  • venvariants

Yeah, I’m aware of all that…but it’s just ridiculous that there’s just the one villain in every. single. damn. movie.

  • jamthemaj

Haha “your”! Right back at ya, slick! I don’t get my pants in a wod over this stuff. :) It’s all in good fun; at least it should be.

  • jamthemaj

He wasn’t in Man of Steel… that’s gotta count for something! :)

  • zeekthegeek

I’m sorry but casting someone just for being bald is foolish at best.

Have you not watched Breaking Bad, possibly the greatest current TV show? That’s all about him becoming a bad guy.

  • Umungus

Mark Strong would be great as Lex but he would have to get that jacked up tooth fixed. There is no way an egomaniac billionaire goes through life with a snaggletooth.

  • MIXTER
  • Ali

Jason Isaacs – terrific actor – and let him keep his accent

  • Preston

    Paul Walker!!!!!!!!! You’re welcome.

  • ali

    that is a joke right?

  • PRIM3

    Strong… he is Lex Luthor.
If he could be Sinestro.. Why not be Lex Luthor?
There are a lot of quality in Mark Strong

Truth! I fixed the ‘you’r. iPad over spell-thinking for me, again.
At least it is better than, say, Kinja for all of Gawker’s sites. It sucks.
Nice. Two even keeled guys on the net?!? The web will shut down! ;)

  • jamthemaj

You got that straight! Haha I didn’t realize you made a spelling mistake! I just liked how you played off my corny self joke. Stupid iPad! My iPhone likes to do the same. I blame Ashton Kutcher. HA!

Hes the Marlon Brando of our generation

  • H.I McDunnough

Nic Cage should be Lex Luthor. The man practically worships Superman and has been dying to be involved with bringing his favorite hero to the big screen. Say what you will about his recent film roles and sometimes crazed delivery but there’s no denying he has the chops to pull of a charming yet deranged villain. From Castor Troy to Little Junior Brown, he’s proved himself capable. If anybody else has posted that suggestion here already I apologize. I haven’t read any comments yet.

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

I hear that, darned iSpelling flubs.
Ashton certainly does like Tech, quite a bit, is he a partner in everything yet(?).
    LoL. :)

    Mark Strong all the way.

  • Hephaestus1

It was an attempt at humor on my part, though apparently poor.

  • keyserSOZE

I personally always thought Arnold Vosloo would make a great Lex Luthor.

  • Elephant

    Matthew Mcconaughey. That is all.

  • SwagMeOutHoe

    Mark Strong should be it

  • Chris

That’s just an idiotic way of thinking. Going by your logic, only an unknown actor can play these parts, otherwise we’re “reminded” of every other character they’ve played beforehand. That literally takes away the acting part for any actor that’s been in movies. Come on, man.

  • Chris

Good actor… terrible choice for Luthor.

  • Chris

    SCOTT ADKINS FOR BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Elephant

Why? Shave his head. Let him keep the accent, turn on the smarm and charm. If Luthor is to run for president, he has to look publicly likable. Strong and Cranston aren’t really likable.

  • Chris

He doesn’t have the look for Luthor whatsoever, even if he shaves his head. I want to hate Lex Luthor, He can still be “publicly likable”, but I’d rather him look much more menacing.

  • Preston

Yes. I usually say Paul Walker for any new part that is casting. It’s hilarious to me. I do like him in the F&F franchise because I like to be entertained when I watch those kinds of movies.

  • Preston

The crazy Brando from the Island of Dr Moreau? Or the not crazy earlier version of Brando? If it’s the crazy one, he can play Luther for sure!

  • Rob0729

Actually, I am hoping if they do the Joker again in a Batman franchise, he gets that role. There is no actor who does batshit crazy like Cage.

  • Rob0729

I always thought Luther was older and it is a tough sell that a guy in his early 30s was a self made billionaire and power broker. I think he needs to be in his 40s and around the age of the proposed new Batman.

  • Dan Riedel

Cranston was surprisingly solid in the abortion known as Total Recall. I wouldnt mind himtaking the role. Mark Strong…not so much. I’d rather him reprise his role as Sinestro, but reboot everything else around him :p

And here’s a wildcard and an awesome pick for Lex: Idris Alba. He has the head for it, is a fantasic actor, can play a confident anti-hero (see Luther), he’s fit, and better yet, he’s tall. Imagine Superman fighting a Lex that’s actually BIGGER than he is. It would be interesting to say the least :)

There’s a small problem with Elba playing Luthor…

  • Cal

I’d rather they go with someone younger, not in their 20′s or anyhitng like that, but, in between Superman and Batman’s age.
    Tom Hardy?

  • Dan Riedel

And what’s that Cal? Perhaps you can clarify…. ;)
