Jared Harris joins ‘Poltergeist’ remake

TheQuietOnesJaredHessCroppedI hope you’re not tired of me complaining about the remake of Poltergeist, because I’m not even close to finished, and the movie doesn’t hit screens until next year.

Poltergeist is still one of my favorite films and I can’t imagine a remake will be able to come close to the brilliance of the original. How about we take all the energy that’s been wasted complaining about Ben Affleck as Batman and redirect it where it needs to be, on stopping this awful idea of remaking a classic film!

But I digress…

I told you in July that Rosemarie DeWitt nabbed the female lead in the Poltergeist remake no one asked for, and now we have some info on another lead role.

Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes) has landed a part in the film.

From Deadline:

Harris will play Carrigan, a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show Haunted House Cleaners.

Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) is driecting from a script by David Linsay-Abair (Oz the Great and Powerful, Rise of the Guardians).

What do you think about this remake? I know I’ve been bitching about it, but I’m not really opposed to remakes in general. I just prefer that there be a reason for them, a new take on the subject matter.

I was skeptical when I heard The Evil Dead was getting a redo, and I was pleasantly surprised at the result. Hopefully the same will happen with Poltergeist, but I’m not optimistic.

Well, until proven otherwise, something with Jared in it, is already considered a plus.

The sad part is, kid’s might think this is a ripoff of the Conjuring.

Going the reality TV route is too obvious. There are about a dozen Sci Fi original movies with the same plot. Poltergeist worked because the characters were identifiable, it started in your home with your family and then it went to places that you had never seen before. I’m not afraid for a TV reality ghost hunter. Why should I be?

A shitty remake will only reaffirm the original. Nothing to lose.
