DreamWorks has released the trailer for director Scott Waugh’s video game adaptation of Need for Speed. The film stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Michael Keaton, Rami Malek, Dakota Johnson, and Harrison Gilbertson.

Check out the trailer below.

Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, DreamWorks Pictures’ Need for Speed captures the thrills of the game in a real-world setting. An exciting return to the great car-culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when authenticity brought a new level of intensity to the action, Need for Speed taps into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing.

The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time—one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul)—who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side—reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter.

Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race—the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

Need for Speed opens in theaters on March 14, 2014.

Looks pretty decent…worth checking out atleast

  • John Smith

Looks like that movie Getaway that just came out. Car scenes of explosions and crashing over and over and over again.

  • cg

really?? this looks like getaway? either you are 1. blind 2. joking or 3. blind and joking. This looks nothing like getaway which looked cheap and rushed. This film has a different look, feel and vibe all together.

  • Hephaestus1

Seems mediocre, but what the hell, it’s Aaron Paul.

All I have to say to this is……WHY? There are video games out there with unique ideas and original stories that are far more deserving of a fiilm adaptation than Need for Speed. To my knowlegde, none of the Need for Speed games had a story worth the dirt we stand on, if they any story at all. So they give us this cheap Fast & Furious knock off. I’d rather the Doom movie be remade instead of this tripe. It atleast has an interesting story worth telling.

Sorry I’m blind I have not seen a movie with my own eyes since I was 10. I just clicked on the trailer and all I heard was car crashes so I assumed that’s what it was.

What the heck cg?! You making fun of blind people now?! That is seriously messed up!

  • cg

It is messed up to make fun of blind people. My apologies to the blind community and to John Smith. I should rephrase my statement to substitute the word blind for the phrase “seriously in need of glasses.”

  • John Smith

I just got my eyesight back! It’s a Christmas miracle!!!

  • WalrusApocalypse

The lead looks to be poorly cast.

  • Guest

I like Aaron, but as a leading man?
    Not a chance.

  • Peter James

It’s a pretty sad day when the video game has better and more convincing CGI and Special FX than the movie that’s based on it.

  • Peter James

    Yeah,

They should have used ice flash cooling instead…..
Now it’s just bound to be brittle.

    Oh wait,…..
….. you meant ‘the lead’, not the Lead……

    …carry on.

  • Luis heffer

So whats next GRAN TURISMO THE MOVIE? crap!!!

  • beane2099

I get that the trailer people are trying to differentiate this from Fast & Furious, but this doesn’t feel like the right approach. Just my feeling on it.

  • Andy

    Unfortunately, yes :P
