Sony Pictures has released the first trialer for the upcoming “RoboCop” remake starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The film was directed by José Padilha from a screenplay written by Josh Zetumer, and Nick Schenk.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Have a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

“RoboCop” hits theaters on February 7, 2014.

This kinda looks like a fun movie, but it will never be better than the original.

  • Guest

    Eh….

  • Oscar

Better than I expected. We’ll see how it holds up when it’s released next year.

  • moviefan

doesnt look as bad as i thought when first pics went online. I will probably see it, but need some more trailers to judge better.

  • HumanHunter#09

It looks like an above average blockbuster I suppose, a bit cheap/tacky, and the suite looks a bit goofy on screen at times.

  • Christopher Sheridan

    A car explosion? Seriously?

  • c_r_gauthier

Well, there is nothing about the trailer to dislike. And the premise might actually even be more sounded and better thought of than the original. This could work.

  • Tavaris M Johnson

Ummmmmm…I dunno. I may give it a chance but it’ll be hard to top the first three.

  • Redbull Werewolf

A robocop staring Justin beiber with a cartoon sidekick and a soundtrack by nickleback could top the third one. Hell most people would rather have violent diareah then watch robocop 3 again

Not sure I’m crazy about both Murphy and his wife knowing from the get-go that there’s a man beneath the metal. There was something about Murphy’s discovery of his memories and realizing what he lost that was pretty powerful in the original. There was also something sinister in the thought that a corporation could do what they wanted with your corpse, including bringing it back to “life” and then owning you like property. All of that is lost in this one already.

  • herpderp

Reminds me of the recent Total Recall. Is it really necessary for the wife/kid angle to get so much screen time?

  • herpderp

The bare hand is still killing me.

  • yomamabinfartin’

I’ll buy that for a dollar!!

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

From the industry that ‘raped’ your memories of TOTAL RECALL…
F*ck You(!!!), we’re at it again!

    Hahahahahahaha. :-$

  • HunterOfTROLLZ

    But… It… Had… Cyber-Samurai!?!
    :-O

  • Dick Jones

This seems to miss everything that made the original Robocop stand out from other robot films. More like one of those generic CGI movies you forget the minute you walk out the theatre. Indeed it looks like the Total Recall reboot all over again..sigh

  • surethom

Dead of Alive, your coming with me. Fantastic trailer, Robocop meets Street Hawk.

    Aaaaaaaaaaand it sucks.

  • Charles Jonathan

So far so good. Better than I thought. L.R had me worried because all they did was post negative news during filming.

  • Chris

Come on, guys. The trailer doesn’t look THAT bad.

I dont like it,the original is a cult movie

  • Daniel Wood

The first 3? You’re kidding right? The 1st was a piece of brilliant action/sci fi horror cinema. The other 2 are just plain bad!

I called the theme of the film as soon as I saw the bare hand in the first leaked concept photo last year. Nailed it, too.

I actually loved this trailer, and I’m really looking forward to the new Robocop. I’m usually not a fan of remakes, but I think Robocop warrants a reboot. The original played off issues of the 80s, and the reboot can do the same with issues of today. I really dig the new suit, both silver and black. Kinnaman is a great actor (I love him in The Killing), and I think he will be great in the role. The movie has a good cast. I can’t wait to see this flick. The story is obviously different enough from the original, which I like. I hope it’s as good as it looks! I’m ok if I’m in the minority there. :)

  • jamthemaj

    Looks quite good to me!

  • jamthemaj

    Agreed!

  • jamthemaj

Times have changed since the 80s, man. I like the new themes that deal with today’s issues. I’m looking forward to the reboot, which isn’t something I typically do.

  • Mr.Irish

Nope, wouldn’t buy that for a dollar.

  • TheTruth

Looks like a lot of good actors slumming. Does Jackson even bother reading the scripts any more? I also thought Laurie was in this film. I assumed he was the villain. It looks pretty much like one of those Robocop TV movies.

  • sunnavab

Hey, I’m not one to shun a good remake/reboot (Dredd, anyone?), but I have my doubts about this one being memorable. Decent? Possibly. Enjoyable? Maybe. Hell, it might even be pretty good. I just doubt it will garner any kind of loyal cult status or have as much to say about society like the original. I also don’t think Joel Kinnaman will pull off Robocop like Peter Weller did.

  • Madcap2112

Robocop 2 isn’t totally bad. Nowhere near the fitdy one, but it has it’s moments.

  • Preston

Has anyone seen Detroit today? This is supposed to be set 14 years from now. Their Detroit looks better than the one today. They should have made it look dumpier than they did.

I didn’t mind the trailer. It looked ok. Much like the other shit that has been put out this year.

  • Luis Heffer

I dont like that ugly black suit, hope the movie dont sucks!!!

  • Bilal Khan

    Dredd was awesome!

  • Duane Cummings

It’s not supposed to be better, or even a replacement, it’s not even a reboot. It’s a retelling of that character, I was skeptical at first, but this, does, look like fun and agreed, it could never replace the original.
