Ben Affleck Talks About Playing Batman

So the rumor was that Ben Affleck was at the Gotham vs Metropolis college football game shoot last weekend and gave a pep talk to the Gotham team in the locker room per an extra. I don’t buy it. He is supposed to start shooting in February. There are two major stories concerning Batman Vs Superman that I am currently investigating so stay tuned.

Ben Affleck chatted recently with AL NORTON AND 411MANIA.COM about him playing Batman aka the superhero casting news that shocked the world.

Al Norton: Do you remember your first thought when the idea of you playing Batman was originally presented to you and was there a tipping point in your decision making process, a moment where you started to think, “I really want to do this”?

Ben Affleck: Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didn’t fit the traditional mold but once Zack showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris and Christian made but still in keeping with tradition I was excited. Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it’s the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zack’s vision.

Al Norton: Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently said that this version of Batman would be “tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for awhile”…Is that how you envisioned him as well and what would you add to the description on the Bruce Wayne side of things?

Ben Affleck: Yes, Kevin described it aptly. I don’t want to go further because I want to be able to capitalize on what is new about this iteration by having it be a surprise to the audience.

Surprise huh? That is the tough thing about being a scoop hound. I don’t know want to know anything about the movie and go in completely cold in 2015 but, way too many of you are asking me for details.

Well, Considering Josh Brolin was almost him, I think its pretty Clear what style of Batman were getting. The Batman that the Comic fans want to see. Tough Gritty weathered is the description of the Comic books, Animated series, Arkham City games! aka, the version weve all been clamoring for. So, whilst I wish we were getting Brolin for this, Afflek will be made to fit the role. I just hope they nail it.

Nolans Bat films, I enjoyed, and appreciated for what they were, but, they were still patchy as hell. The last one was a massive wasted opportunity, any Bat-fan will tell you that! But, they were still brave attempts at making good films. Just a shame Nolan wasn’t a fan of Batman before he made them. Afflek and Snyder are!

Cant wait to see a Bat-mobile too, I liked the Tumbler, but it was always a Concept vehicle for me, I was expecting it to evolve over the movies, but it didn’t. Still, we had a Bat-bike and Bat-wing so he made up for that.

But this rumored Cadillac design, has me intrigued. Obviously we wont be seeing an old vintage Cadillac, but some futurist wheeled weapon. This is Snyders play pen after all, so it will at least look fantastic. He made Supermans outfit work in a modern setting without taking too much away from what we wanted to see, but made it work as an Alien design, rather than Lycra spandex.

    Dude only asked two questions?
I hope Ben goes and sits down with Papa Smith when the time comes and does a fatman on batman.

Definitely. I also look forward to Garmin turning belly up for Affleck when the movie comes in.

Don’t mean to poo poo on this film, but damn, I’ve yet to read or hear anything from this project that gets me excited. It doesn’t help that I was profoundly disappointed with MOS, and that the same team is on this one. No doubt Affleck has become a very good director, but he’s still a mediocre actor.
Do I hope to be wrong? Shit yeah! My expectations for The Avengers was null (due to the fact that I think Joss Whedon is overrated ). But I, and many others were pleasantly surprised. So I have glimmer of hope Zach gets it right. He’s great visually, but as a storyteller….he’s become…well…just watch Sucker Punch.

Can’t wait for that first Teaser/Trailer. That will be barometer of things to come.

The Ben Affleck hate is pretty much done by stupid fanboys that don’t know anything. Is Ben Affleck a better actor then Bale? NO.. But I truly believe he can pull off a better Bruce/Batman than Bale. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It wasn’t Bale’s Batman that made TDK Trilogy AMAZING. In most of the movies Bale’s Batman is outshines by his supporting cast. Plus that Batman wasn’t even the definitive Batman.

My problem is still with Kevin Costner dying in a tornado to save a Dog. That’s two film-school 101 cliches in one big condescending turd of a scene. I want to see a tired genius, Batman. A borderline-fascist batman wearing cloth with white eyes desperately. But, unlike Ben, I don’t know if I trust Zack.

I wonder what two “scoops” El May is working on for BvsS. One has to be this new mysterious female role/Bruce Wayne love interest/female villain/Wonder Woman or a combo of them all that he said he knows who the top 4 contenders are for the role 2 weeks ago. The other scoop must be either the official title of the film which I hope has The Worlds Finest in somewhere or confirmation that Lex Luthor will be in the film.

  • DKnight007

Hmm…how about letting us that you are a better writer and director than JJ Abrams? Let us know what you think about Kasdan and JJ starting all over with the script and Arndts being trashed and how that will cause a delay in the Star Wars film.

Now, who’s being the Troll. Grow up. Geeez.

Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing a new Joker in this, Willem Dafoe was made to play him..

    http://d1vr6n66ssr06c.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Dafoe.jpg

Now, yes, Ledger was fantastic! But, he is only one iteration of him. And was quite removed from what the source material looked like. Dafoe would bring the comic character to life.

Ben you need to quit posting this idiocy under your fake name.
You’re still a detestable frat-boy and most certainly not the motherf*cking BATMAN.

We’re all happy for your fat paychecks though, maybe you can afford a few more Lambos in the garage.

  • bigriver00

I admit I’ve never though of this possibility – and it seems like a good idea.

  • bigriver00

Yeah, this pic confirms it. This guy can definitely be the Joker…..the looks plus the fact he is naturally insane.

  • claudiomario

I would bet money this is Worlds Finest titled and Bryan C. will be Lex. TAKE MY MONEY.

  • claudiomario

OR Gordon as he’s already played the voice in the animated series.

  • JamesECash

what we or i can hope for is that this movie showcases villains more then batman hopefully this douche bag will be alright and personally i think brolin was a worse choice. i just have to say hes one actor who i think is very overrated. cant stand the cocksucker tbh. lol.

  • MIXTER

Yep! terrific actor too, menacing presence. And has the Joker look even without makeup.

  • c_r_gauthier

I remember an Elseworld Batman Superman book where the Kryptonians are alive and well on Earth and Kal-El is being raised by the Kents, but, his parents are alive and well on Earth. In this story, Kal-El sympathises with the humans more than the Kryptonians and the Batman version in this story is an old and weary version, complete with a Robin.

Wonder if that’s the type of Batman they will use. Nothing is new, just recycled. :)

  • No.

    No Robin. Just no.

  • Steve Croft

    Holy shit…

  • Onyx

I agree,no Robin. If they need to reference Robin then make it right after his death and refer back to it. But make a mention of Nightwing, let him already be an established character/hero even if they never show him.

  • Onyx

    Holy shit!!!

I can’t believe I never thought of Dafoe playing the Joker before this. Looks like he was ripped from the pages of a comicbook!

  • Mario-Francisco Robles

Couldn’t agree more, but here I’ll add another reason to be glib on this project:

MOS was disappointing, but Nolan’s touches- if I spotted them correctly- were the best parts. Yet this time, Nolan will not be involved with the story. It’ll be a strictly Snyder-Goyer tale. Scary stuff.
