Lionsgate is adding the “high-octane thriller” Point Break to its list of new movies. The film, which is a remake of the 1991 action thriller of the same name, will be directed by Ericson Core, who previously filmed Invincible, The Fast and the Furious, and Daredevil.

Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove are producing with Christopher W Taylor and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer. Robert L Levy, Peter Abrams and John McMurrick serve as executive producers.

The movie is set to start production next March. It will be shot on-location in places like Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, China and Malta.

Here’s a summary of the movie:

“The action centres on a former extreme sports superstar and FBI rookie who infiltrates a gang of itinerant thrill-seekers in a bid to crack a series of international robberies. As the law enforcer’s investigation goes deeper he develops a strong tie with an enigmatic adventurer attempting to become the first man to complete the death-defying Quest Of Eight Challenges.”

Lionsgate has a lot of films on the horizon, including Mortdecal, starring Johnny Depp and Gywneth Paltrow, Gods of Egypt, with Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Love & Mercy, starring John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti.

Anyone have a script??? Sounds like they are taking the OG film and taking it all over the place to leave out LA and SURFING. I hope they retain the same characters and get good/decent actors in the roles…

Isnt the title Point Break a surfing reference? So, shouldnt it at least have surfing in it? This movie just sounds like a rip off of Fast and Furious and Wesley Snipes, Drop Zone….

Yep dropzone does come to mind…..

You cant remake Point Break! Sure, you can emulate it as they did with The Fast and the Furious but don’t call it Point Break when it’s not!. Why even consider remaking this? You can’t honestly think that the original can be considered out-of-date?

Is this just so you can have young, beautiful people in it for the tweens to identify with? Fuck the tweens! They’re not even a real demographic. Just a pointless cluster of society that needs to grow the fuck up and stop swooning over glittering vampires and Justin Fucking Bieber! Hollywood’s constant pandering to this pointless mass of human garbage is ripping the soul out of the movie industry.

Also, as Alex Mendoza rightly points out, the name ‘Point Break’ is a surfing term. You can’t put that in the title of a movie about extreme sports! How frickin’ dumb as these movie execs? I guess about as dumb as the ones who remade Karate Kid but had the Smith spawn doing Kung Fu!

Fuck off Hollywood! Get some original ideas for once! Stop shitting on the good works that have come before.
