Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons Join the Cast of Untitled Superman/Batman Film

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Jesse Eisenberg has been set to star as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons will play Alfred in the upcoming Zack Snyder untitled Superman/Batman film. The dual announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Snyder stated:

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

Snyder also added:

“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

Eisenberg received Academy Award®, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award® and BAFTA Award nominations for his starring role as Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s “The Social Network.” He also starred in Woody Allen’s “To Rome with Love” and Louis Letterier’s “Now You See Me.” He next appears in “The Double” and “Night Moves.”

Irons won the Academy Award® for his portrayal of Claus von Bülow in “Reversal of Fortune.” His work in the film also garnered him a Golden Globe Award. He won an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award® for his performance in the TV miniseries “Elizabeth I,” opposite Helen Mirren, and recently starred on the small screen as Rodrigo Borgia in Neil Jordan’s highly acclaimed Showtime series “The Borgias,” for which Irons earned a Golden Globe nomination. He was recently nominated for a SAG Award® for the PBS Great Performances television miniseries “The Hollow Crown,” for his performance as Henry IV.

Snyder’s film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. The film also reunites “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

The new film is currently being written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

The film is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016, and is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

  • moviefan1

The casting for this movie is getting weirder and weirder by the second. I mean Mark Zuckerberg?! Come on DC.

  • EzyTarget

WTF. Please tell me you meant to say irons is playing Luthor.

  • Vadakin

    Irons as Alfred is fine.

Eisenberg as Lex is completely wrong though. Sure, he can play smart but he can’t play presidential and that’s what you need for Lex. He’s not just the smartest guy in the room, he’s also the most charming, the most likeable. He has Metropolis eating out of his hands. I can’t see Eisenberg pulling that off.

  • Tequilero

Thats the weirdest casting since Ben Affleck for Batman… wait… this is the same movie!? OK making a strange bet on casting 1 major role in this caliber of movie is weird – or WTF – but another WTF casting for another major role in the movie?

What kind of drugs are these casters on? Really I need to know cause I want to know what I should high on to survive through watching this train wreck…

And I didnt even forecast a train wreck when they got Affleck, but now they’re pushing the the weird casting factor way too hard…

  • Dbaugh373

I think it’s inspired casting. Today’s Lex Luthor would have to be a tech-genius – someone who has independently accumulated vast wealth; who’s capable of clandestine cyber-attacks; and who can simultaneously create a positive public persona that’s politically persuasive and a cover for his nefarious, autocratic impulses. Eisenberg can embody those elements – bald or no. Alternatively, Jeremy Irons has polished steel in his blood. Suave and refined but capable of defending Batman to his dying breath. A gentleman’s gentleman who could run the operation and operate a shotgun with surgical precision.

  • OnECenTX

Jesse must of done something really impressive with his test screen for him to get the role, kinda excited to see what that is since it’s such a really odd choice :S…. He does play a great assh*le character if you seen The Social Network.

  • Hephaestus1

  • yo’mamabinfartin’

Absolute train wreck! This is going to be one epic disaster that could end all DCU movie projects : ( After what Nolan did to bring back BATMAN in a great way to let Hack Snyder and Goyer just ruin MOS and now with this odd casting for BATMAN/SUPERMAN! From Affleck to Gadot and now Einsenberg…just odd. DAMM you DC and Warner BROS.

  • moviefan

i like irons as alfred didnt expect them to go so young for lex but jesse is a good young talent. Curious to see the direction like will take.

  • Johnttt

I don’t think you’re as smart as you think you are.

  • Frederick McCain

I was thinking the same thing.

  • bfmrdk

Totally agree with you. I am much more excited about the Luthor casting than Alfred. Eisenberg is awesome. I never liked Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey in the role. They were goofy and borderline silly. This is good news.

  • bfmrdk

*buys tickets 30 days early on-line anyways*

  • yo’mamabinfartin’

No my friend!! I won’t be seeing this movie in theaters!! I’ll wait for it to hit red box or Netflix

  • tigerface

Eisenberg as Luthor… a short skinny guy sure conveys fear as a villain right? Same as a big tall Amazon played by a woman that looks like she weighs 90 lbs. carrying a bag of hammers.

  • BlindBocephus

So he is basically going to play Zuckerberg again? The Super Social Network. That sounds pretty stupid.

  • tigerface

You have part of my attention – you have the minimum amount Mr. Kent.

  • whatsxhisxname

I pray to god almighty that this is just a rumor like the time countless sites reported cranston was goinf to be lex. Eisenberg is too young. Too skinny. Too nerdy. And looks too much like a JEW!!!!!! Maybe he can be lex in a flashback. But i really hope this isnt true

  • BlindBocephus

Looks too much like a Jew…. really? Wow. That is some weak sauce, man.

  • Tequilero

I dont think you’re as potato as potato

  • chris

I dislike Eisenberg because he portrays a smart-ass punk in a lot of movies, but this may work out well for the movie. I mean, I want to hate Luthor. I want to see Superman beat the shit out of him, so badly. Looking at it in that sense, it’s not the worst casting in the world. I’m most definitely going to hate Lex Luthor in this movie, that’s for sure. As for Jeremy Irons as Alfred, I love it.

  • Marcus D. Ellison

Irons is a tad bit young but I’m sure he’ll be an amazing Alfred.

Eisenberg is such a weird/left field casting choice that I’m actually intrigued. It could end up being a total trainwreck but I’m open to being surprised because it’s so uncoventional

  • bmatth6167

Jeremy Irons, fine. Not the warmest individual on the planet, but he’s great, so fine. Eisenberg? Seriously? Alongside the other cast members? Eisenberg is cool and everything, and I know everybody wants to work with him BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN HE’S PERFECT FOR EVERY ROLE. Why stop at Luthor? Why not cast him as Wonder Woman? They just killed the movie for me. I will no longer be looking forward to seeing it. It has now gone into the ‘see it at some point…maybe’ category.

  • claudiomario

I’m really sad about this pick for lex …

  • Steve-O

Eisenberg no thank you…get Clancy Brown!

  • Black

Yea this movies has OFFICIALLY gone to Shit!!! I hate that curly haired fuck face. Like I said b4 the Jewish agenda in Hollywood will be expressed throughout the casting of these DC movies.. galdot not zuckerberg.. he cannot pull this off.. they cannot pull this off..

  • Cbhisop

    Aaaaaaaand your opinion is invalid.

  • findingclues4u

Looks too much like a Jew….You do know Superman was created by two Jewish boys from Cleveland… Bob Kane… Jewish decent, Bill Finger, Jewish….

Where the Fuck do you get off saying something like that… Ass smuggler

  • Tim

Im pretty excited, they got the age right for lex, and i could totally see him overthrowing his father and taking over the company or something. No one on earth can complain about jeremy irons, perfect choice and grittier than Michael Caines alfred, which goes great with the tone they have so far. Really the only thing to worry about is the female casting, is it just me or is snyder pretty bad at directing females?

  • Wildcard

While I’ll reserve judgement till I see the film, Eisenberg seems like good casting since it gives him a chance to grow into the role. First and foremost, he’s a good actor (though occasionally one-note). If the rumors we’ve heard about Lex being a behind-the-scenes guy in this movie are true, then he would be good in it. Eventually, as Jesse gets older he’ll fit the mold of the Lex we know in future movies.

  • LordVolta

Ugh…no please. Both are good, but they just DONT fit with those characters.

  • Bruce

Well…what can I say…stop fucking this movie up!!!!!!!!

  • Oscar

Awesome casting news. Irons as Alfred, great, Eisenberg as Luthor, strange but okay. These people are ACTORS for a reason. Let’s try and move on people. Nolan can’t be making Batman forever, we all knew the day would come when the franchise would be rebooted.

  • Daniel Baldwin

    Someone ban this racist asshole.

  • MrRedBeard

Actually Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, but you’re right about them both being jewish.

  • David White

He isn’t Lex Luthor, you guys are getting played. Bunch of knee jerk fanboys.

  • timm_jett

How do you go from thinking about Bryan Cranston as Lex Luther to settling for this dipshit?!?

  • iCallHimWaYne

Obviously they test screen them so they know the pressure they have to make this amazing. Ben Affleck did somthing right. Jesse eisenberg did something right. I remember how much i was against the idea of Heath Ledger. The only thing that does throw me off is his size and youth…thet have to make him look a bit powerful and intimidating at least for my taste but either way like all of you ill be there first weekend watching it front row seat (well mid row, front seats are the worse). DC>MArvel

  • findingclues4u

No Shit, Bob Kane and Bill Finger were Batman, also both Jewish
*I was writing in a hurry due to this idiot saying what he said.

He may look a bit more sinister if he goes bald as Lex….but I still don’t like that casting one bit ! Irons is a good choice for Alfred…but he would’ve been great as Lex as well. couldn’t they take a cue from superman:The Animated Series. That Luthor rocked !

  • ChowYunPhat

Now we just need Michael Cera as The Flash, Tyler Perry as Martian Manhunter and Jackie Chan as Aquaman.

  • ThoseNerds

Yeah because all of those people were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

  • Michael__Rassbender

  • NatSolo

    i can’t even, even anymore.

  • Howie

From the valley, silly-con valley. I wonder if they’re going to put him on the gadot regiment?!? Or shave the pubes off his head, bald-berg?!

Variety is still saying the script is goyer’s not terrio’s. And that only melniker, uslan, and coller will be exec pro’s; nothing about goyer and geoff johns? What’s the deal kellvin, where are you getting this info from? no thanks to gl, geoff johns should be nowhere near any movie property!

Why is it they could tell us this casting and not who the Rock is going to be playing?
If irons is alfred then who’s the commissioner gordon? Anticipating robin being a girl.

  • Tavaris M Johnson

  • Flap-Jack

Ok i am surprised by Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor… This movie is gonna have weird cast but that doesn’t mean it will be ruined or it will be who knows. But i ain’t gonna say that i will not watch it (it would be an lie). Sooner or later it will hit on TV or maybe i am gonna see it in theaters

  • Peyton

Eisenber is 30 you psycho nerds not a 18 y/o kid… and he has the depth to portray a good Luthor… quit complaining about Gaddot you sound a bit gay on that note . I’m not assuring they make a great movie but at least they are keeping me interested on the type of interpretation this movie will have.

  • Mrbean206

this has to be some sort of joke….

  • NatSolo

by luthor you mean, jimmy olsen right?

  • Kindofabigdeal

Irons should have been Two Face, Eisenberg could have been a decent Riddler. But as is this sounds like shit.
Had to vent, I’m banned from AICN.

  • Michael__Rassbender

If you could have invented LexCorp , you would have invented LexCorp…….

You don’t get to be CEO of LexCorp without making some enemies ………

  • claudiomario

I understand why they chose this guy. Small. Weak looking. Reminds me of Spidermans choice for Osbourn

  • Andres

Wow. I dont know what to think. Lex is supposed to be a bit likable. Im not sure if Jessie Eisenberg can pull off likable.

  • Peter James

So what are your emotions going to be like when you learn they cast Michael Cera as Doomsday?

  • Lord_British

The earth might have met its end by that time, anyways…

  • estacado

They’re going for broke. This will either be the greatest superhero movie or the worst. The funny thing is that these casting choices have a higher chance of working if Tim Burton was making the movie.

  • ChowYunPhat

    Lighten Up, Francis.

  • AlexiasLazar

I can… Example #1 – the Tech Community in San Francisco

  • ThoseNerds

    whatever genius

  • AL

This is a joke right ? Eisenberg as Lex ? Seriously ? WTF are they smoking ?? I’m a huge DC fanboy but this shit is looking worse and worse every day.

  • AL

no he can’t. eisenburg always just plays eisenburg. awkward and neurotic. there is nothing lex luthor like about him in any way, shape or form. so now we are left with a weird, stuttery, non charismatic lex.

  • AL

    Spoiler alert !! :)

  • AL

just because he was nominated doesn’t mean he’s right for this role.

  • AL

it doesn’t matter how old he is. it matters how old he looks. and name one movie that eisenberg was in that he had any depth past being weird and neurotic.

  • Dan Riedel

I’m curious about Eisenberg… I mean, are they going to go the route of Smallville where he’s old money? Because in MoS, Lexcorp was on EVERYTHING. Including a oil tanker – doubt a guy old enough to be a .com billionaire would be interested in OIL.

I really wanted someone with the age of Bruce, possibly trained in martial arts since childhood for fun. So when the gauntlets are thrown down, Lex could take on Batman AND Superman at the same time.

Seems like they’re going to make Lex more of a twerky creep than anything. Not menacing, just a weasel that cheats.

Sigh… what do you expect from the guys at the WB… looks like they may have finally made me become a MARVEL fan instead of a DC one.

Even Spiderman’s casting outshines this… holding out hope tho…

And Irons as Alfred? Ugh… he’s too strong of a person to be someone more… emasculated by a brat orphan. Michael Caine was tops, they shouldn’t have rebooted.

  • Howie

He knew back in Oct’13!! Nice cover by the costar then in w/ the publicist.

  • Vadakin

Steve Jobs, sure. Mark Zuckerberg? No way.

Luthor is basically Jobs, Obama, Don Draper and Professor Moriarty rolled into one.

  • Po

He can do it. I seriously think he will be good a Lex. He will be a bit like Michael Rosenbaum was in smallville.

  • oxman212

    What. the. Hell.

DC, you continue to surprise me.
Although, I do love Jesse Eisenberg, but this has me even more nervous…

  • PinkFlamingo

I guess they saved the crazy casting announcements for last.

  • Random

What i do know is: The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel were great movies. Every character (except whats-her-face in Batman Begins) was well casted, and the story and action in all of the movies were very good. I trust this team to make good decisions with Batman/Superman. A little skeptical as most, but ill reserve judgment until we get the final product (or at least a trailer).

  • Vamien

Really, is this what you’re pissed about? Not that Latino Review has been shoving false information down the throat of viewers for months?
Listen, this website has been creating false rumors all along. Their sources speak of so many actors to play roles in various movies, yet it never pans out. One need to break away from this website and find somewhere else more legitimate for comic book news.

  • Mario-Francisco Robles

Vadakin! Wow It’s awesome to see you posting here on LR. This is “Super Mario” from BlueTights and EyesSkyward. I’ve been writing for this site for quite some time. Glad to see you around this corner of the web.

Hope all is well over on the forums. I pretty much abandoned those when I became a writer here.

    Cheers! And…keep coming!

    See you around.

  • Mario-Francisco Robles

Yeah. That damn cunning Zack Snyder is lying to all of us!

    Good call.

  • tigerface

Cranston would have been awesome for this, but if they asked him to shave his head to achieve the Luthor look… everyone would complain that he looks too much like Walter White.

  • Vadakin

Good to see you. I’m pretty much all over the internet, especially since Disqus only requires a single login to post pretty much anywhere it’s used (except IGN which is fickle about it).

By the way, bit of news. You remember Kalmart from back on the forums, right? Well he has a friend working as crew for Superman/Batman who has told him that principal photography hasn’t in fact started yet, despite the story going around at the moment.

  • Jaesin

Billy Zane would have been an awesome Lex. Anyone remember Demon Knight?

  • KaiChen

That’s he’s proven he can play ruthless, scheming billionaires?

  • Vamien

I’m not referring to this announcement, so please don’t take me out of context. Furthermore, I’m just here to gloat and point out how this website lacks credibility and never gets anything correct.
False rumor after false rumor, and everyone make a mess in the comments without looking at the big picture…….none of Latino Review sources never came through….ever. This goes to show that there’s no sources, just some guy throwing out wild claims to see what sticks.

  • KaiChen

He’ll be better than Hackman (goofy) and Spacey (derivative goofy)

He won’t surpass Rosembaum, but nobody would…

  • Mr. Smart-azz

LMAO!!! And you wanna know the funniest thing of all?…………….All you DOUCHEBAGZ complaining are gonna be buying the same movie tickets as myself so stop acting all HUFFY and scrunchin them shoulders up STOP acting like your some brilliant cast directors its not only getting old its getting out of control so what your FAVORITE actor didn’t get cast GET OVER IT JR! LMAO!!!!!!

  • Madcap2112

The rent must be due for Jeremy’s Castle.

  • Theron

    Settle down, weirdo.

  • Brand Loyalist

    “Amazingly seasoned”

  • Theron

    More “annoying” than “assh*le”

  • WoWed

well, it’s not just strange casting in one role. it’s strange casting all over the place. it gets a little harder to believe that all these people are going pull off career changing performances.

  • wat

Only problem I have about this guy being Lex is that he’s too young. I can see it in his face that he’d do a fine job otherwise.

  • oxman212

Besides the fact that it’s an official WB announcement, and that basically every other movie website is reporting it….

I used to think LR made up a lot of false rumours, but I realised that most of the rumours that aren’t right are at least half true. They’re good, honest scoopers.

Go home. Don’t use this site if you hate it.

  • Vamien

Yes, I know this is an announcement coming from WB, I can read. In fact, I first read about it on IGN.
Say what you want to say, but this announcement has yet again proven how Latino Review is a source that lacks credibility. And is that your excuse? Most of the rumors are half true? Lol Why can’t at least one be true? You throw enough made up information at people, eventually some will run close to the truth.
Latino Review will slap another Batman vs Superman leak in your face, and you’ll be all over it, only to be disappointed when the truth is revealed.
Nothing wrong with being a fan of comic books etc, but be one that is sensible. Stop being taken for a sheep in a herd of thousands willing to grab on to the next Latino Review lie.

  • HoTZ

    Stuttery Sh*thead Magician!?!
    F*CK Nooooooooo…

  • Theron

He’s the same age as Cavill, but he looks like he’s 20

  • wat

Yeah exactly. Perhaps a bald head and movie magic can fix the problem. We’ll see.

  • Luis

What is up with these casting, doesn’t make sense, I’m hoping I’m wrong but what the fuck is going on

  • Steve Croft

Brilliant casting for Alfred, for Luthor, it’s very bold and has a lot of possibilities.

  • Steve Croft

Yeah and all Heath Ledger did was replay his 10 Things I Hate About You character in The Dark Knight…. right? Right guys? Right?

  • NathanielS

    Me confused

  • oxman212

Well you definitely didn’t read my comment.

I read it on IGN first as well, I regularly use it.

You do realise most news sites like this repost stories from other sites, right? All that matters is readers get the info.

I said all the rumours that weren’t correct. A lot of the rumors are correct, and the ones that aren’t are half-true. PLEASE READ.

I’m not, I take everything that isn’t an official announcement with a grain of salt, either big or small a grain of salt nonetheless.

Stop complaining, When LR claims that someone is in talks for a big role in a superhero movie and someone else ends up getting cast, people like you complain, “See?! Latino Review lied!”
When that doesn’t contradict the rumour that an actor was considered for the role.

Stop complaining about sites when you continue to use them anyway. There are just as many people who post comments like that on IGN, you know.

  • mlnick

I have a hard time watching him now lol instead of calculated and cool. he now seems slow and dim.

  • wat

Affleck was a GREAT casting choice. Fanboys just blindly hated because of Daredevil, instead of considering his other acting and directorial experience. Plus, he LOOKS like Bruce Wayne.

Gal Gadot was a questionable choice since she has no real acting experience. HOWEVER, she has a lot on her side. She’s beautiful and exotic looking, which is what an Amazonian woman should look like. She served in Israel’s army, so she has ACTUAL combat experience. And she’ll be under the guidance of both Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck, two very good directors. Not to mention the script is partially written/revised by the writer of Argo.

Jesse Eisenberg is less questionable. If you look at his face, you can see he’ll play a cold, calculating billionaire quite well. He just looks a bit too young but perhaps when he shaves his head, that’ll change. If not, there’s always movie magic to help out.

  • tommythepower

This movie is really going for biggest joke there is alredy ,pretty hard not to agree with the Angry Joe show on this one

  • Vamien

Do not misunderstand me. I know that most websites like to reports. But I’m not speaking of reposting, I’m on about Latino Review’s own sources. Rumors this site first come up with from its “EXCLUSIVE” sources lol.
You’re an apologist, for many times Latino Review claim a certain person is the favorite frontrunner and is definitely up there to get the role. You can spin all you want, but this site is spreading false information day in and day out.
Now, I’m no regular visitor for as you might be able to tell, these comments are my first, so don’t say I complain and continue to use the site. Some of the sties I read report on Latino Review’s madness, which is how I got wind of this place.
I’m just here to say this website creates a lot of rumors to deceive its viewers. I mean, where were you when some guy from this website is on a building top in a video spurting information and even claiming they are real? Creating a rumor is one thing, but then saying it is real and it’s happening, and we’ll see….is another thing.
This guy is notorious for bull….you know this, and yet you defend it. Bravo!

  • Onyx

  • Onyx

Hmmmm not feeling too sure about BvS (at all!) anymore.

Lets hope they pull it off.. .

  • oxman212

El Mayimbe, and yes, his rumours are either true or half-true, only few of them are false.

For example, when he says “WB are in talks with a certain actor for this role, it looks like it’s going to happen”.

As I said before, when it doesn’t happen, everyone thinks he lied and made up a rumor. But does Jesse Eisenberg being cast as Lex Luthor deny the rumour that Bryan Cranston or Joaquin Phoenix were IN TALKS?

I’ve found that if you at least do some digging into the rumours, most of them are credible. As for their “Exclusive” sources; movie news websites can’t quote many of their inside sources, otherwise the studio will find them and fire them for spilling info.

  • Howie

    Jonah Hill’s Granny Goodness

  • Charles Jonathan

The movie is getting negative press for a reason and that is not a good sign. I’m not a hater, I am, or was looking forward to it, I want it to do well, but something tells me the ball continues to slip from their hands.

  • Mario-Francisco Robles

You’re right. Baron von Strucker wasn’t just revealed as another Avengers villain. Gal Gadot didn’t land a significant role in Batman vs Superman. Johnny Depp never met with Marvel. It also ISN’T looking like BvS and JL are going to be shot back-to-back.

And these are just recent examples off the top of my head.

It’s too bad these LR guys “never” come through.

    Oh wait…

  • Mario-Francisco Robles

Good to know. That’s what I thought.

  • CellReborn

Mario, I had no idea you were from Bluetights as well. I used to frequent that place often. Posted as “Professor Chaos.” Miss the discussions over there especially now with the new movies. Good times.

  • Frank

Michael Rosenbaum is his own Lex Luthor. It’d be very difficult to portray that interpretation again through a movie considering the character’s development in Smallville.

  • Frank

I’m not sure why people are upset that Bryan Cranston wasn’t cast for the role. Would it have been great to see Cranston portray Lex Luthor? Absolutely but Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. would have made a terrible investment to cast a 57 year old actor as Superman’s iconic archenemy for their young DC Cinematic Universe.

Jesse Eisenberg could portray a Lex Luthor that we’ve never seen before and quite frankly I’m excited about that. No more Gene Hackman’s outdated Lex Luthor or Kevin Spacey playing as Gene Hackman’s Lex Luthor. (I believe Kevin Spacey did a better job than Gene Hackman hands down.) Man of Steel introduced us to an entire new interpretation of characters of the Superman mythology that were done with phenomenal acting and characterization, I expect no less from Superman vs. Batman/Man of Steel 2.

Also, we’ll be introduced to a visually different interpretation of Batman, which I’m most excited about. While I loved ’89 Batman and The Dark Knight Trilogy, we may actually be viewing a Batman much closer to the comic book source material and I couldn’t be more excited. We’ll also be introduced to Wonder Woman on the big screen and whether or not Sucker Punch was written well, Zack Snyder truly knows how to capture strong female characters.

  • Joseph Chaisson

I am okay with this, more I look at both actors body of work the more I am convinced that these are great casting choices.

  • Rei Chase

Great point on the youth angle and Eisenberg is a GREAT actor! Just… To own Metropolis, I figured there would be some physical intimidation when walking into Lex’s office, the look of a too tired forty-something with weight of the world on his shoulders but still has enough piss and vinegar to slap the crap outta ya, smiling. Weathered is the word I think, Metropolis being the city he built/took over…which takes time. Rome wasn’t built in a day friends

  • Rei Chase

Too much like a Jew? I’m guessing LATINO REVIEW is leaving this comment up to let us all know : Hate, not internet “trollism” is REAL. Really tired that is. Jew? So much to discuss and this is the thoughtlessness that rises to the surface? Then stop reading : BatWoman ,X-men : LEGION, KITTY PRYDE, Fantastic Four ; Ben Grimm

In fact, pretty sure I speak for Jack Kirby: stop reading comics, because you CANNOT AVOID A JACK KIRBY CREATION….ANYWHERE. Really, your money’s just unnecessary. Good day in the hopes you’re just being childish.

  • awnuce360

This is smart casting whether it works perfectly in the film or not and here’s why. No one is really talking all that much about Jeremy Irons being cast as Alfred.

    Why not?

Because his casting seems kind of obvious.
Jeremy Irons has played similar roles throughout his career and it’s not difficult at all to see him filling Michael Caine’s shoes. If studios had gone the same route with Luthor, people really wouldn’t spend too long talking about the casting. Picture Bryan Cranston cast in the role, for instance, or Mark Strong.

Either would have seemed to be obvious choices, expected choices even, and audiences wouldn’t have felt compelled to go to the movies to check out how they did, because to a certain extent we could guess how they would play the roles. As good actors as the two are, casting them would have been a rather uninteresting choice.

Now, look at the reactions that casting Affleck, Gadot and now Eisenberg have caused. People are genuinely interested now. Many think the film will suck or flop. However, no one can deny the interest these choices have garnered.

Honestly, most people will probably want to watch the movie just to see if they’re proven right about the actors whose casting ticked them off so badly. This is the definition of brilliance in casting and I for one can’t wait to see how things turn out.

And just because the casting is surprising doesn’t make it wrong, I realise this is hypocritical to say but since when does the internet get to decide what is a good casting choice, Most are simply knee jerking that all of these choices are terrible and that the movie is going to suck. What I would like to know is…….how can you possibly know that?

Daredevil was 11 years ago – Get over it are you the same person/same skill set, same outlook as yourself 11 years ago?

Gal Gadot has the better part of 12 months the bulk up, also could they not simply do a reverse Captain America for her body?

What a great deal of you are not remembering, is THE STORY. Ultimately the film begins and ends right there. Look at Iron Man 3, not a bad movie by any stretch but there were definite issues, not with the casting choices in my opinion but because story elements were less than consistent. History of cinema is littered with stories of unusual casting choices and we have all been blown away

Heath Ledger is the obvious choice to use as an example but for obvious reasons.

How about in TV land Brian Cranston, after Malcolm in the Middle would any of us seriously have predicted what a fine actor he is and would be throughout Breaking Bad.

I for one am not over the moon personally I still have a soft spot for Michael Rosenbaum, but until we have a finished product to critique, maybe we should all take a step back, or this is going to be a long two years
