There’s a new featurette for Pacific Rim title “Drift Space”, which you can see below.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day.

Pacific Rim will hit theaters on July 12th.

Anytime there’s a new Spike Jonze film is a cause for celebration. He really hasn’t made a bad flick yet. He even managed the impossible with his last feature by giving us a nearly perfect adaption of the the beloved children’s book Where the Wild Things Are.

His next flick, Her, is about a man (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with the Siri-like voice of his computer. Sounds right up Jonze’s alley.

Her will hit theatres November 20, 2013 in limited release.

In addition to Phoenix the film also stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Samantha Morton.

Sly Stallone dropped this Tweet recently, hinting at the inclusion of Steven Seagal for The Expendables 3.

….Calling SEAGAL this morning.

Just talked to STEVEN S. in Moscow …Sounds great and says he wants to be in EX3, if the part fits….

A few days ago, Stallone also revived talk that Jackie Chan could be in the mix:

What’s the plan? Ask Jackie Chan….

— Sylvester Stallone (@TheSlyStallone) May 16, 2013

Jackie Chan spoke with Empire recently and told them the following regarding a possible role in The Expendables 3, ”[The Expendables team] did contact me, but right now I have not read the script yet. I’d love to work with Stallone, but until I get back next week and meet Stallone and his manager, see the script…that’s when he’ll tell me what happens.”

On the same day of the Chan Tweet, Stallone announced (again) that Wesley Snipes had signed on:

Talked to WESLEY today … He can not WAIT to fight to the top again !!!!!!! Over…

Despite the obvious star power of Chan and Snipes, Seagal is the one action hero I’ve wanted to see in The Expendables since the series started.

Classic Seagal

Stallone could match the excitement of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chuck Norris (in a limited role) in Expendables 2, by adding Seagal, Snipes and Chan for the latest installment. #Fingers crossed.

Also, Mickey Rourke will be back.

Check out a new UK trailer for Dreamworks’ speedy snail feature “Turbo” starring the voice talents of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Ken Jeong, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Snoop Lion, and Samuel L. Jackson.

“Turbo” is the story of a snail who dreams of being the greatest racer in the world, just like his hero, 5-time Indianapolis 500 champ, Guy Gagné. Turbo’s obsession with speed and all things fast has made him an outsider in the slow snail community, and a constant embarrassment to his cautious older brother, Chet.

Turbo desperately wishes he could escape the slow-paced life he’s living. He gets that chance after a freak accident when he suddenly finds himself vested with the power of incredible speed. Turbo embarks on an extraordinary journey to achieve the impossible: racing against the best that IndyCar has to offer. Turbo is the ultimate underdog who achieves the impossible by refusing to let his limitations limit his dreams.

“Turbo” hits 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on July 17, 2013.

Angry Birds already exists as a cartoon called Angry Birds Toons. Watch a promotional video for the cartoon below.

Vitti previously wrote The Simpsons Movie (2007) which received mostly favorable reviews. His experience in animated series’ such as The Simpsons and King of the Hill could make this Angry Birds movie entertaining if given the right cast.

Will this be any good?

Paul Verhoeven has stated that he’d like to direct Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Legend of Conan. The two previously worked together on the original Total Recall, with great results.

Here’s Verhoeven:

“If they asked me, I’d certainly love to – let’s put it that way. But I don’t know what the script is. I don’t know what Arnold wants. I’m a big fan in fact of Conan. That’s a great movie and I found that the composer, Basil Poledouris, basically inspired many of my movies [the soundtracks] like Arnold, Robocop, Starship Troopers and Total Recall. The score of Conan is great. The style of editing that (John) Milius used was very beautiful, and Arnold does a great job. He was really the perfect choice.”

There’s no director yet. Hell, the script isn’t even finished, but given their past working relationship I suppose it’s not out of the question.

What do you think? Is Verhoeven right for Legend of Conan?

Personally, I’m hoping they get John Milius back.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first TV Spot Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming robots-versus-kaiju epic film “Pacific Rim.”

The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day.

Have a look at the first TV Spot below.

“Pacific Rim” will hit theaters on July 12, 2013.

A few weeks ago I got a chance to check out “Fast & Furious 6″ and lucky enough to speak to the director of the past four Fast & Furious movies, Justin Lin, whose films have grossed $1.2 billion worldwide.

Lin talks about the mythology of the characters from the franchise, his departure and much much more.

Just when I thought you couldn’t do any better than your previous film, you topped it off with this one.
Justin Lin: Oh, thanks. It was good to come back and just, like, wrap a few things up. That’s kind of been…when I was talking to the studio back in ’05 and Vin [Diesel] and everything, that was my biggest dream, for me to be talking to you right now. It feels great to have done everything that I wanted to do.

Can you talk about the mythology you created with the characters in this film?
Justin Lin: I think that was the one thing that I felt I wanted to try to do with the franchise when I joined. One thing was the sensibility of the franchise. I really wanted to build the relationships and really acknowledge the evolution of these characters, and so I remember when I pitched it, people probably thought that I was crazy, but I think that’s what makes it compelling. I think there were two moments for me that were huge, defining moments for the franchise. One was getting Vin to do the cameo for ‘Tokyo Drift’ because I think Dom Toretto is the patriarch of the family. I remember hearing that Vin will never do it, blah, blah, blah, and I remember going to him, showing him the film and saying, ‘Look, this is what I’m trying to do.’ He totally got it. And when he said yes, I felt like we were doing something right, we’re building something right. So that led us to have the opportunity to do the fourth one, and then I went back to the studio and I said, ‘Okay, we’re going to do the fourth one, but I’m going to need Dom to be alive.’ They were like, ‘Wait, didn’t he die in “Tokyo Drift”?’ I said, ‘No. “Tokyo Drift” is a postmodern taken on “Fast & Furious,” and it’s going to exist and we’ll deal with it. But for right now, we’re going to develop his relationship with Dom.’ So I know there were some small themes in the big scheme of the franchise, but I think those were the two testing points that I felt, looking back now, that were huge in where we are now. Once we were able to do that and really build it, I felt like everything we talked about in ’05 we were able to build, and as the characters evolved the obstacles got just naturally, kind of organically, they become bigger in scope. So that’s why we got to the point now with ‘Fast & Furious 6,’ these are all character moments, and it’s something that in my greatest hope was to be able to achieve. Slowly we were able to kind of, because audiences have embraced this globally and now we’ve become…we have this huge community. It all started with this idea of, ‘Let’s try to build the mythology. Let’s really be bold. When we have a chance to make a sequel, it means that the fans want us to go further on the journey, and let’s not repeat ourselves. Let’s grow.’ I think that having a studio that was open to taking chances and letting me explore and grow it, that to me was the best recipe.

Did you always envision that this is how you wanted the story to go from Tokyo Drift?
Lin: Yep, pretty much. To be honest with you, the plane sequence is so big and I started designing the plane sequence in 2009. That was before ‘Fast 5.’ I started designing the plane sequence because I was hoping…originally the way that it was supposed to go, it was ‘Tokyo Drift’ and then we started the new trilogy which was ‘Fast & Furious.’ It was called ‘Fast 5,’ but you noticed watching the film that the credits said series six. It was always supposed to ‘Fast 5′ and series six and it was supposed to wrap up this chapter for the characters. So a lot of stuff, I’m sure when I was talking about it in 2005 that people were like, ‘What’s he talking about?’ But I felt like if we could earn it and we could grow it, ultimately it was going to be a big set piece. My greatest thing was to bring everybody back and to evolve them. I knew that was going to be at least seven characters on one side. So when you look at ‘Fast & Furious 6,’ there’s thirteen characters that I needed to take care of.

How do you manage the time to work with all these actors?
Lin: I think as a director it’s my job to have a point of view. I think that the actor’s job is to really take care of their character, to come and challenge if there’s anything they have opinions about, but I have to…ultimately I have to have the point of view of where we’re going. What’s great is that we’ve been together for about eight years now. We’ve become family behind the camera, and a lot of us have had kids. They’re all growing up together and I get to know all of them, and I know their strengths and weaknesses, and as we write and develop for the new chapters I’m able to dish out what I think is good and rebuild these characters. So it’s a relationship that’s very rare. A lot of times you do a movie, you do it and then you’re done, but in this case we’ve had eight years. It was thick and thin. It was never easy, and there were tough times, too, but I think we stuck to the plan and we just kept going and kept going. That’s the most gratifying thing, that as a director I have the trust of all the actors because sometimes it gets so crazy that they just have to trust me. To have their trust means everything. It means everything to me, and I don’t take that lightly.

How much are you involved with the writing? Are you involved in the story at all?
Lin: I have to. I have to. I mean, it’s something that you’re either a director for hire or you’re a filmmaker. Where I came from is the indie world, and that’s what I do. I like to collaborate, but if I can’t have a point of view I shouldn’t be making a movie. To have a point of view means from the ground up you have to build everything, every shot, every lens, the lighting, every element. I have to be…it has to be there to help the point of view. So I think the writing of these things are crazy. There’s never a script ready, and so you have to jump in and you have to make things happen. Sometimes you make things happen on the fly. These are basically big independent films. I think we all have had the shorthand, and people might get freaked out because of it, but I think without a point of view you’re screwed. I think that is something that I think we all work very well with and we collaborate. At the end of the day, if you think the movie sucks, it’s my fault. If you think the acting sucks, it’s my fault. If you think the writing sucks, it’s my fault. It’s like I have to take accountability. I’m not going to blame anybody else. So if I don’t like the pages I have to make them better. So that’s my approach and that’s where I come from and I like that. If something doesn’t work, don’t blame the other people, blame me. I’m accountable at the end of the day.

The film has a couple of scenes where they live by a code. What code do you live by?
Lin: I believe in respect. I believe in shared experience. I think words are just bullshit. I think it’s very easy to say whatever. My whole thing is when I took over the franchise, I think I wanted to create a culture where you’re not just coming in to get paid. I think sometimes in the indie world, all the time when you do movies people come on because they believe in the script, they believe in you. You go in the studio world, sometimes it’s just clocking in and I didn’t like that. I wanted the indie sensibility to be in the studio world. We’re lucky. We get compensated very well and I wanted to make sure that when we clock in we’re working twenty four seven and we’re going to try and make the best film we can. Whether we do or not, I don’t care. I just want the effort to be there, and I think it worked well. I think it took us a little time to kind of change our culture, but from top to bottom everybody works their asses off and we’re a family and everybody is great. It is that thing of, again, talk is cheap, but let’s just go and do it and we have to go and do it. I can only show you by the end…when you watch a film, it is what it is, but there’s a lot of work that goes into it. How we do that is very important to me.

What was your toughest challenge in doing these action sequences?
Lin: Well, they’re all well planned out, down to the frame and lens and everything. A lot of these things, as crazy it is, I’ll come from my head. I’ll say, ‘Look, we’re going to do this,’ and then I go to the crew and I say, ‘How do we…,’ like I remember going to the crew and saying, ‘Hey, I want to do this thing where there’s a truck moving at full speed and it’s going to run into a cable and a tank is going to come out of it while it’s still in motion.’ There was, like, silence for thirty seconds and then finally someone said, ‘Okay, well, we can do that in maybe four pieces,’ and I said, ‘Here’s the thing, we have to do it all in one piece,’ and we did it. Part of it is because we want to challenge each other and we want to make everything…we want to do stuff that’s never been done before, and that is a challenge, but from my experience, easy things are either lucky that it’s easy or you’re not trying hard enough. I think on these films, these big budget films, I feel like our job is to make it as hard as possible and challenge each other every second because that’s the most fun. It was easy, everybody would be doing it.

What sets this film apart from the rest of the franchise?
Lin: Well, I think there’s definitely a maturity about it, and I think it was always planned for…’Fast 6′ was always so big that at one point it was going to become two movies. But I felt at the end of the day it was best to do it as one, but if you watch it, there’s a lot going on. That to me is, any questions you’ve had over the franchise of the characters, it gets resolved here. This is the end of this chapter. It was always by design, and so when watch the movie it’s just going to have a greater scope. It’s going to have more importance, because it’s something that we’ve been building for eight years. Now we’re finally here. I do think that if you have any inkling, that if you like the other ones, you’re going to want to come see this one. I think on a character level it resolves a lot of the stuff and it confronts a lot of elements. So this is something that I wished we could get to one day and now we’re finally here. Talking to you on the phone means that we’re finally able to bring it to the screen.

Have you kept any of the cars from the film?
Lin: No. Usually Neal [Moritz] will snatch them up, and I don’t have a garage big enough anyway, but to me a lot of these cars, they’re all designed for specific things. I love seeing them on set, but to be honest I don’t have enough room to keep them. But usually Neal and Vin, they snatch them up pretty quick.

What are your thoughts on a movie like ‘Need For Speed’?
Lin: Look, I think it’s always healthy. I think the fact that they’re trying to make another car movie, it’s good. It means that we’re doing something right, and I am of the camp that we want cinema thrive. You want to see things, and if someone thinks they can beat it, do it. The fact that someone is doing it, I wish them well because that’s what makes it fun. What we do as filmmakers, it’s not competition against each other. It’s just competition within yourself, to try to be better, and when you see something and you think you can do better, then go do it. I hate it when people, like, complain all the time, like, ‘This sucks. I can do better.’ Well, if you can be better, go do it, and when I see people doing it, I always love that. Look, I’m excited to see it. I’m excited to see anybody who thinks that they have a good take, and as a viewer, I’ll go by a ticket and I’ll check it out for sure.

Why weren’t the other two Latin characters in this film?
Lin: Leo and Santos? There’s a lot of reasons, because obviously [inaudible] and Don Omar, they have thriving careers. When we shoot these movies, they have to commit to ninety something days of their schedule. We always try to, in the last two, in four, they were only in it for a few days of the shoot. Five was taking a huge chunk of their schedule, and if you watch the movie, there’s a montage in the beginning and I don’t shy away from it. They’re a big part of the franchise and I like to think that the franchise is going to go on and on, and in this universe, and it’s not just this universe, these characters are always doing something. Whether it’s this chapter that they might not be with us, they’re still around, and I’m sure down the line they’re going to be in other ‘Fast & Furious’ movies. I don’t think it’s always about putting everybody in. I think it’s about making sure that in this universe we enough characters that they can, when it’s appropriate and when it’s organic…and to be honest with you, I think when I was working on ‘Fast & Furious 6,’ it just got to a point where their characters, they really did feel like they needed a little break. After ‘Fast 5,’ with that roulette scene, I just thought it’d be funny to kind of hold off on that. So that to me means that we actually have other family members in this franchise that can come in and out. So I can’t wait for them to come back in. I remember when we were doing the montage, people were saying, ‘Well, they’re not in this movie, should we put them in?’ I was like, ‘Hell, yeah. Put them in. Let’s acknowledge them. They’re a big part of who we are.’ So I hope that I see ‘Fast & Furious 12′ and there’s ten more characters and that people can come in and out. That’s what I good, I think for me that’s what a good franchise is. That means you create a universe. You create mythology of people that can come in and out. That to me is something that I hope this franchise can keep growing and growing into.

Now that you’re not doing the seventh film, what kind of involvement will you have in that one?
Lin: I think that James Wang is a great choice. He comes from the same place that I come from. He’s an indie guy. He came from Sundance. He has a point of view, and I can only think back when I first came to do ‘Tokyo Drift,’ they let me do what I want. Nobody sat over me and said, ‘You should try to do this. You should try to do that.’ They just handed me the keys to the franchise and said, ‘If you think you can do it your way, let’s see it,’ and they let me do it. I appreciated that so much that I never want to get in someone else’s way. I’m proud that this franchise is thriving and I can hand it over to James, and say, ‘Here you go. Do it your way.’ I’m most excited to see what he can do, and I’d never want to get in his way. I know people have people talked about, like, ‘Hey, can you do this time,’ and I say, ‘No. I think it’s time for me to walk away clean,’ because I think out of respect to James, I want him to really take this on and make it his own.

So you want to just be a fan when you come to see the seventh one?
Lin: Yes, of course, of course. I think this franchise has been good to me. It’s been a big part of my life, and I want to see it succeed on and on and on, and to know that I was a part of it’s legacy.

Will you ever go back to indie films?
Lin: Of course. I actually have a few in development, and that’s where I came from. I’m very fortunate right now. I have a ton of projects in development, whether it’s in feature or TV, I can’t wait to see in the next month what floats up and what gets me excited. I will make my choice. To me, after the premiere in London on Wednesday, I start writing one of my projects. So I’m excited to do that. I’ve been doing that off and on, but now I will do it full time. So it’s going to be great.

What’s the update on ‘Highlander’ and will you be coming back to do ‘Terminator 5′?
Lin: Both of those projects I really like and I really had to kind of walk away to do ‘Fast & Furious 6′ because I felt like I owe it to the franchise to really come in and close it out. But now that it’s done, I think those projects are both still open and my phone has been ringing and stuff. I’m also at a very different place now than when I was working on those projects, and I love them both. I have to see what the scenario is. I think a lot of times making a film is not just about going and shooting something. It’s about making sure that you get the right people onboard and building the right team and the right atmosphere. ‘Highlander,’ I’m definitely one of the producers on. Even when they had gotten…after I left they got a director, but I was there to help out whenever I can and shaping things. So I think ‘Highlander,’ I will always be a kind of part of that, whether I direct it or not. To be honest with you, I don’t know, because my head is still in ‘Fast & Furious’ land right now. Honestly, it’s been eight years, and finally, seventy two hours ago I delivered it to the studio. So for the next few days I just want to enjoy this right now and not think about anything else. But they’re both definitely kind of on that option list and we’ll see what happens in about a month.

Would you ever consider doing a superhero movie?
Lin: If it’s the right one. I think what’s been great is that all these superhero movies have come out and they’ve been able to explore the genre in many different ways and it’s been so well done. My thing as a filmmaker is that I wouldn’t want to tread on something that’s already been done, but if there’s a really fresh take I would definitely love to do it. It’s funny, I’ve had opportunities to do superhero movies. I think because of the last eight years I’ve been doing ‘Fast’ and trying to really build this franchise and being committed to it, I’ve had to pass, and since I’ve passed I’ve seen a lot of great ones being made. So for filmmakers it gets harder and harder, but more challenging because that genre is getting so good. It’s gotten so good that you want to take it on. You also want to make sure that you have something that’s fresh. It’s something that those opportunities have come and I’m sure that they will keep coming, but until I find the right one, I’ll see. It is something that on a weekly basis I’ll get inquiries about.

Are a Marvel guy or a DC guy?
Lin: Let’s say that I’m familiar with both camps.

Any superhero movies you’re looking forward to this summer besides ‘Iron Man’?
Lin: Yeah. What I love about summer is we’re a part of the summer, and I think Marvel has done it right. They’ve stuck to character and have been very successful. It’s funny talking to you when you ask me that question, because I don’t know what the hell beyond mixing and trying to make this movie, and when I hang up the phone with you I’m actually going to look at all the movies that are coming out to see which one I want to go see.

“Fast & Furious 6″ Opens in theaters on May 24, 2013

Disney is working to produce a film that will continue the story of where 1983′s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi left off. Production on the seventh film in the series will start next year in the UK. Episode VII is expected to hit theaters in 2015.

Aside from the return (in an unknown capacity) of stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher (WE first broke Harrison Ford coming back), not much else is known.

My right hand man El Mayimbe recently heard that a young man who has only been in one major franchise movie (in a co-starring role) was in talks to star in the new Star Wars film.

Now, my source has told me more information…

This is a name that has been thrown around a lot, especially since he has a relationship with J.J. Abrams. He appeared in Mission Impossible: III, directed by Abrams.

Sounds like he already has it.

He’s none other than…

The Tudors (2007-2010) star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

As for what role he would be playing, we don’t know.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi represented the end of the Star Wars series on film but the story for Episode VII will be original and written by Michael Arndt, whose writing credits include Toy Story 3 and the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

So what do you think? Let us know below…And also EXPECT DENIALS FROM ABRAMS…Wasn’t he the one that said he wasn’t directing the next Star Wars movie? Didn’t he deny the existence of a specific character in Star Trek Into Darkness?
